They be dancin'

I've been enjoying the Earth posts of all the Manic Monday Minions this evening. I haven't gotten to everyone yet, but I will...either tonight or in the next few days.

But I must stop my rounds now, because...

YAY!! Cue that theme music! Live, from Hollywood!

Last week we had the "shocking" elimination of Sabrina and Mark. This week we have celebrities trying to learn two dances, a Latin and a Ballroom.

First up, the Ballroom round.

Helio and Julianne dance Tango. Right off the bat we have an odd music choice. Can we not ballroom dance to rock music please? What a stupid thing to do. We couldn't see the Tango for the music. We're glad they did that dance first and we hope they get better music for the next dance. Judges say 9,8,8 for a total of 25.

Marie and Jonathan dance Quickstep. And they have appropriate music. She gets to show off personality. And she lays a big ole smooch on Len. She had the quick feet it needed and the performance. It was extremely entertaining and fun. She isn't the best dancer and that wasn't the most crisp Quickstep, but she puts on a show and that's the way Jonathan choreographed the dance. Judges say 10,9,9 for a total of 28. We think the 10 was too high. We don't think the dance was perfect.

Mel and Maks dance Foxtrot. We're not wild about this music choice either. It didn't allow them to emphasize her elegance. We didn't care for the choreography. It looked rushed and thrown together. She performed well but it looked heavy. We want a classy Foxtrot...a Fred and Ginger Foxtrot...and that wasn't it for us. Judges say 8's across for a total of 24.

Ms Jane and Tony dance Quickstep. It may be special to Jane, but we're not so sure about a Quickstep to I Walk the Line. As with last week's Jive, the music tempo is too slow for the dance. It does allow them to be precise with the difficult steps. The judges' criticisms didn't make sense to us. We didn't see anything wrong with her technique. We thought the problem again was the music. Judges say 8's across for a total of 24. Pppppppppppfffffffffffffttttttttttttttttt.

Jennie and Derek dance Viennese Waltz. This is her style. That was gorgeous. We smiled through the whole thing. We have no idea what the judges are talking about. Maybe there's something we don't understand about Viennese Waltz. Sometimes the judges pick on stuff that we don't understand, and praise stuff that we think isn't good. And that would be why the fans ultimately decide who they prefer. Judges say 8,8,9 for a total of 25. We thought the dance was beautiful.

Cameron and Edyta dance Quickstep. They scored the up tempo exciting music. But they aren't taking advantage of it. His steps are choppy and disjointed. We didn't like it. They lost several steps and it was too over the top. We didn't care for the choreography. Judges say 8's across for a total of 24.

The judges should remember that the vast majority of viewers are not experts in these dances. Pam and I have taken class, so we understand a little more of the technique and what the dances should look like. But sometimes we like the performance even though the technique might not be perfect. And sometimes we don't like a technically good dance because we don't understand the music or the choreography.

That's my 2 cents, adjusted for inflation, for whatever it's worth.

And now let's do the Latin round.

Helio and Julianne dance Samba. We enjoyed that. The dance was performed well and his personality was really on display. Samba should be fun and that was. Judges say 9's across for a total of 27.

Marie and Jonathan dance Cha Cha Cha. Marie is having a great night. She's able to be cheeky sexy with this and have fun. She's a real entertainer tonight. We loved it! Judges say 8's across for a total of 24. Nope.

Mel and Maks dance Paso Doble. Of the two dances tonight, it looks like this was the one they put the most focus on. That was sharp. It was dramatic and powerful as it should have been. Judges say 10's across for a total of 30.

Ms Jane and Tony dance Cha Cha Cha. We enjoy watching her dance. We liked the choreography, the energy, the performance, and everything else about it. Judges say 8,9,9 for a total of 26.

Jennie and Derek dance Rumba. She went to full on actor mode on that. That was outstanding. A complete performance. We loved that dance. Sexy and romantic. Judges say 9,9,10 for a total of 28.

Cameron and Edyta dance Jive. It was a very athletic Jive, but the tempo of the music was too slow for us. The judges liked it but we didn't. Judges say 9's across for a total of 27.

54 Mel
53 Jennie
52 Marie
52 Helio
51 Cameron
50 Ms Jane

OK gang. I voted for Marie. I enjoyed both of her performances the most and she was my favorite. Pam voted for Jennie.

Don't do the television thing so don't know any of these folks. I will participate in the Peace Globe event tomorrow. Have a great day Travis. :)

I'm peace globing but Mimi's blog crashes my PC every time I go there so checking in won't be so easy. Might log in now and leave her a comment instead (I have time to reboot just now when the computer dies.)

Sorry I haven't been around lately to catch up with your posts. I'm still in shock over the Sabrina debacle. They need to institute one "judges overrule" per season. This would help avoid this tragedy. Sigh.

  1. I'm have a hard time figuring out the fan base this year....might be because I don't really have a favorite this time around...

  1. V: She could be in trouble. It's all down to fanbase.

Matt: Cheryl danced on the results show last week.

Sandee: I'm slipping back into the habit of not watching any series tv. Just Dancing and History Channel or HGTV.

TC: I have that problem sometimes with Mimi's too. If you have trouble signing in, just shoot me an email and I'll sign Mr Linky for you.

Steven: No worries dude. I think the problem with Sabrina is that her fanbase was overrun by the daytime soap watchers and the nostalgia crowd.

    Katherine: No favorites eh?

  1. Julie says:

THanks for the recap sweetheart....I still want to catch the shows I missed but i like knowing what happened just in case I can't.
