The word genius can be over-used. But not to describe John Belushi. He was quite literally a comedic genius. Here are a few examples.

John was a brilliant mimic. I wish I could find a clip of him doing Brando.

"We're just the guys to do it."

Johnny could sing y'all.

Take the time for these two clips. It's people who knew John talking about his genius. The special is called An Inside Look, recorded in 2005.

I was fortunate to see John and the original SNL cast when it was fresh. I didn't always get it, but I knew it was always funny.

  1. My parents forbade me from watching SNL, but I used to sneak it when I was at a friend's house sleeping over. (I was raised in a strict home, even in my teens!)

Great comedic genius, gone too soon...

I got to stay up, in elementary school on Saturday nights just to watch SNL in my jammies. I totally didn't get everything, but I got enough to know what was funny and that cast was excellent. I was very sad when he died.

I loved SNL. I'm so old that I remember when it used to be funny! John Belushi was one of the greats, as was Gilda, my favorite. Why is it that we lose so many of the good ones so early?

    Great post.

(I put a linky to your site up on my Manic Monday post because I didn't have my Linky box up yet when you visited. :-)

  1. Songbird: My mom wasn't thrilled that I was watching either.

Tiggerprr: It's interesting that even though we were a little young to "get" some of it, there was still enough that was just knock down funny.

Neila: I loved Gilda! Thanks for the linky!

  1. I was still in diapers when Belushi died. However, I did see all of his movies and grew to appreciate and artist taken too soon.

His Brando is GREAT. He could make you laugh like no other.

I met his brother a few years back and though he's not as funny in my opinion, he's still got a hilarity to him.

And seeing him in person definately highlighted the similarities.

God he was funny. I loved SNL then. I sometimes had to sneak to watch it but the giggles would often give me away. Thanks Trav.
