Obsessions

Neila from Blog That Mommy hit me with this Obsession Meme. And now, I present my five obsessions of the moment.

Obsession: persistent disturbing preoccupation with an often unreasonable idea or feeling.

1. Dancing with the Stars. Just visit this place every Tuesday and you'll get this one. But if an obsession can be harmless, then this surely must fall into that category.

2. Blogging. This might be more of an addiction that it is an obsession.

3. Spelling and using the correct word. I'm a writer and a poet. The correct phrase is critical, especially in a poem. But I have a very difficult time just writing through a segment. If I'm not getting it right, I'm usually unable to go forward until it is right. I can't simply write the bones and move on, which is why my novel is stuck.

4. I don't like to let anyone down. Just the thought that I might not have measured up to my own standards is enough to keep me awake for days.

5. TV shows on DVD. I must have them. Especially the ones I remember as a kid.

I am not obsessed with tagging, so get out from behind the sofa!!

I'm a bad blogging pal tonight. It was a long day at work. I cruised by some of you very quickly and may not have left a comment, and I didn't make it to others. I'll catch up in the next few days.

    Nice list... I tried to write a story once about obsession, but it got indefinitely put on the shelf.

    We share obsessions no. 3 and 4 - we have very high standards dear and are often harder on ourselves than anyone else!

    I share obsession #3 with you. I agonize over word choice, even when I'm speaking. It must come from my years of studying (I was an English Lit and Composition major with a minor in Public and Corporate Communications). I've been a professional writer and public speaker for many years, and the most touching compliment I received was from a woman who said, "I could listen to you for hours. You have such a gift for word play."

    I so agree with you on three. And four. I have pretty high standards and the Bull Shit indicator is mighty sensitive when I don't reach my own standards which tells me Stop Judging then at least I'm off the hook.

    I agree with you on tv shows on dvd. I spend way too much money on them. I want them all!

    And letting people down...I agree with you, if I don't live up to my own ideals I'll spend a sleepless night worrying about it.

    OH my Travis.. #4... MAN that is me also.
    And it extends to being my worst critic. If I make an error, NO ONE is more upset about it then me and I will obsess over it for the longest time.

    I can get crazed over #3, but then there are times I just gonzo-write (ala Hunter S. Thompson)

    Well you know me and number 3---we are exactly the same that way and I am trying very hard to get over that.

    2 --um a little *giggling*

    1---I like it very much--not obsessed though

    4- I try to do my best knowing there will be times I miss the mark--it's life. I don't obsess over it--I just do my best to make things right.

    5. Funny but not at all. I obsess on music and books---hardback books.
