I like...

...Valerie Bertinelli. Always have. I had a bit of a crush on her when she played Barbara Cooper on One Day at a Time. I didn't know the word for it back then, but she was snarky. I was drawn to many of the sit-coms that portrayed single moms because my mom was on her own raising me and my sister. ODAAT was my favorite for awhile.

And she married a cool rock star!

What made me think of Valerie today? Her Jenny Craig commercial! It's been playing all evening and she's just so dang cute! She's in front of the freezer trying to decide what to have for lunch. She lists a bunch of really great meals, and then there's the ad for Jenny Craig, and then she throws her hands up and says "Pizza!"

She's 47 years old, she's a little overweight, and she's still as cute as I remember.

There are some women in my life who are struggling with their weight and the way they see themselves. I love y'all and I want y'all to be happy.

It's not easy to make changes in long-standing habits. I wouldn't presume to offer any advice. But it seems to me that stressing over weight loss only makes the process harder.

Valerie actually has a blog where you can follow her progress. If you're having trouble on your weight loss program, maybe this is the plan for you.

Keep your eyes out for that commercial. I couldn't find it on youtube.

Dang. She sure is cute!

  1. She is a doll. Eddie has not aged well AT ALL, though!

I love her too! And I was sad when she and Eddie announced their divorce.

However, her plight has caused me to look at myself and inspired me to try to lose {a little} weight myself. I just got back from a two mile walk!

  1. Jeff: She sure is. And no he hasn't.

Gail: Hiya doll! Good for you for walking!

I had a thing for Schnieder.

She's adorable. I've seen the commercials several times. My issue with Jenny Craig is that the food is double what you would pay in the grocery stores (at least it was when I checked out the program). It would have cost me $150 just to feed MYSELF for the week - never mind my husband as well.

But if you can afford it, go for it.

Hey sweetness always adored her too!

thanks so much for the words of encouragement, I so appreciate your kindness!!! mouaaaah

ahhh yes, one life to live, alice, those were the days.
I was always a big fan of hers as well. I was fortunate enough to meet her and Eddie one year in Steamboat Springs at the foot of the ski mountain. Very normal, down to earth couple. As Jeff mentioned above, Eddie looks a little worn, even more so in person. But damn if he can't play the guitar like nobody's business, and he was very kind and approachable.

  1. I always thought she was cute, and I loved that show because it was "supposed" to take place in Indianapolis.

I think she gave it a good run with Eddie, but after twenty years, I think his antics were enough to drive anyone nuts. A friend of mine ran into Eddie at Fender a few weeks ago; Eddie is NOT holding up well.

Weight loss...not going to touch that one. It's been a life-long battle for me, and it's about so much more than the weight, you know?

  1. Matt: Why am I not surprised?

Angell: I've heard it can get expensive.

Tisha: Hiya doll! You are most welcome my sweet.

Count: I saw a pic of Eddie not long ago - he looked monstrous. Glad to hear he's a real guy though.

Songbird: I do know it's about more than the weight. Body image is such a tough thing these days.

I found that cutting way back on sugary foods helps a lot. It's a real pity that so many of us are insecure about our bodies. Of course, all those pictures of all those super-skinny Hollywood girls don't help.

  1. cathy says:

I'm proud of my wobbly bits. women aren't supposed to look like ironing boards!

  1. BeckEye says:

Yeah, stressing over weight is almost worse than trying to lose it. I've known girls who are really in shape or super skinny and they can't carry on a conversation without talking about what they do or don't eat and how often they work out. It takes over their whole lives. I understand that eating healthy and working out are LIFESTYLE choices, but it should just become part of who you are and not be your defining factor. God, how unhappy must those people be to think of nothing but what they are allowed to eat or freaking out because they didn't make it to the gym one day? I'd rather be a little overweight and happy than be skinny and miserable!

  1. I agree with you, I've always thought she was just too cute. She's aged very well, still maintaining that "cuteness."

  1. Sandee says:

So do you really think she is cute Travis? Really, let us know. You are drooling all over your blog here. Do you see the drool? Great post! :)

  1. I felt creepy having a thing for her during OODAT...until she got a bit older! LOL

has anyone told you you are way to cool... i mean it.

I know alot of folks could take lessons from you.

I like her to.. she was neat on the show!

  1. She was always 'cute as a button' and still is, no matter what her weight.

You guys will never understand - we all want to be skinny - it just feels GOOD!!!

Good for her for working so hard at it and being a great role model :)

  1. i need a diet with cake...

    smiles, bee

  1. I've seen the commercial... it's cute, as is Valerie. I've always liked her too.

I guess if you're as rich as Furgie and (oh oh... drawing a blank... the actress from Cheers that's in all the Jenny Craig commercials... must be time for bed... it'll come to me in the middle of the night) and Valerie then you can afford Jenny Craig, otherwise... We actually don't even have one available where I live, though there are some in other areas of the province.

  1. Meri: Exactly. You're a smart pup.

    Cathy: That is correct!

Beck: I agree. You have to be happy with who you are, otherwise no program is going to work.

John: She looks almost the same, doesn't she?

Comedy: **blush** I'll get a towel.

V: Well, she's a few years older than me so I guess I'm ok!

Wolfbaby: I'm cool eh? Well thanks!

Heather: I try to understand and be supportive. I just want my gals to be happy.

Bee: Now that's the kind of diet we can stick with!

Alice: I didn't realize how expensive the program can be. And the other actor is Kirstie Allie.
