The 8 things - Lucas style
Posted: Saturday, July 21, 2007 by Travis Cody inLucas is the most excellent author of one of the writing blogs I visit. At Through the Never you'll often find stories that will curl your toes, chill your blood, totally gross you out, or simply enchant you. You really never know with Lucas, which is why I return often to see what has escaped from his imagination.
This particular meme has been around awhile, but I like the idea of putting a new twist on it. Sort of like a theme within the meme. You know, I just found out this week that those two words - theme and meme - actually rhyme. I've been saying the word meme wrong all this time, rhyming it more with "hemi".
But now I've gone off on a tangent! Yikes! Let's get back to the task at hand, shall we?
In honor of Lucas, who tagged me for this more than a week ago, and in keeping with my commitment to a themed meme, I'm doing eight things that scare me.
1. Spiders.
2. I have an intense fear of drowning.
3. I've covered this fear by saying that I just don't like the sensation. But that's rubbish. The truth is that I have a fear of flying. It's not a debilitating fear because I will get on an airplane when it's required. But I'm still afraid of doing it.
4. I'm afraid of failure.
5. I'm not sure if I'm actually afraid of heights, but I get nervous and a little dizzy sometimes. I did ok looking out and down from The Empire State Building when I was in New York several years ago, but I couldn't look up at the rest of the tower from the observation deck. Is that weird? Oh...there's NO WAY you'd ever get me to walk out on this thing...
6. I'm afraid of a fire at my home. For those of you who have seen pictures of my library or read my Thursday 13 author lists, I think you'll understand.
7. My folks live out in rural southwestern Washington State, about 30 miles as the crow flies from Mt St Helens. I hit a deer with my vehicle one night driving out to their property. I have a fear of doing that again, which is why that road to their place is one of the few places that cures my lead foot.
8. With my rickety knees, I'm always afraid to take a bad step.
There we go. Now Lucas has a story he's posting in segments. It's called Ice Mountain. If you have some time, cruise on over and take a look. Here are links to the first segments.
