Getting down to the top 10
Posted: Friday, July 20, 2007 by Travis Cody inThis is the only possible encore I could choose from last night. This is Anya and Danny with a stunning Foxtrot.
If they haven't connected with voters after that dance, then it's not going to happen. And in case you doubt Danny's brilliance as a dancer, check this out.
I'm not really campaigning for the kid, but I have so much respect for his talent.
Another terrific group dance to start the results show - the kids did a 40's style Jive choreographed by Jean-Marc Genereaux.
OK - first two pairs are up. Well, Sabra & Dom have a firm grip on the fans and are safe. And that puts Anya & Danny back in the bottom three. It's America's favorite dancer and these two are just not connecting with the voters.
Next two pairs up and it's Sara & Pasha safe, putting Jamie & Hok in the bottom three. Pasha is one of our favorites and we are very pleased. Hok has gotten a tough break with style over the last couple of weeks.
From the final two pairs, Lacey & Kameron have the fans and are safe. That puts Lauren & Neil in the bottom three.
It's another pretty tough group of six for solos, but then with every week it's only going to get tougher.
Hey - Mia Michaels and Wade Robson were nominated for Emmy Awards for their choreography.
And the solos:
Anya - Now that was a much better solo than in previous weeks. Lots of energy and personality.
Danny - I don't have enough adjectives. He's brilliant. 'Nuff said.
Jamie - This girl is really growing on us. Classy and beautiful.
Hok - He's so good at what he does, but will they let him go because he's not as versatile? He's up against Danny and Neil.
Lauren - She was prepared this week and she was wonderful.
Neil - He is fantastic in the air.
Well this is not going to be easy.
My thoughts on the gals - Jamie must stay; both Anya and Lauren stepped up, but I give the edge to Lauren. So Anya is out.
My thoughts on the guys - Oy! Danny and Neil have similar styles. Hok is tremendous at what he does. Do the judges select based on versatility, or do they pair down to one gracefully trained dancer in favor of hip hop? My feeling is that Hok will be the one to go based on his lack of versatility.
Now the judges say:
For the gals - Jamie stays despite what the judges say was a desperate solo. It's a split decision to save Lauren and let Anya go, based on two judges who felt Lauren finally started to live up to her potential in her solo work.
For the guys - Judges unanimously eliminate Hok because he hasn't shown enough versatility, despite the wonderful Hummingbird routine from a few weeks ago. The last two weeks really hurt him.
There are incredibly talented dancers on this show. If you doubt, I'll just remind you that Anya danced the stunning Foxtrot with Danny in the clip at the beginning of this post. And Hok danced this one below, which at the time was the best dance of the season.
I'm working on the Archive Meme that Starrlight tagged me with this week. So I may be back later with another post.
mmmmmmm.... he is good!
