Email and thank a Marine

This is pretty important to me, so I've decided to make it a sticky post for the week. Please take a few extra moments while you're here to send an email to the address you'll find below. Then scroll on down for things like Manic Monday, a meme tag, Dance recaps and results, and Thursday 13.

I really appreciate your help with this.

I just paid a visit over at The Ice Box, where Desert Songbird has posted about a project to send email to Marines.

She writes:

I received an e-mail from hubby last night with news that I thought needed passing along. From the blog "Atlas Shrugs" comes this request:

"US Marine Colonel Simcock, the commander of USMC Regimental Combat Team 6 in Iraq, is asking for 6,000 positive emails to his Marines. That's one email for each Marine in his RCT command. COL Simcock is concerned about the effect of the negative barrage that those Marines are getting through the electronic media. I've attached an excerpt from an interview with him. So far, they've only mustered 2,000 emails. That's a crying shame compared to the amount of crap I get daily in email. "This is a legitimate request. It's not one of the "little Johnny wants to break the world's record in Christmas cards" situations. It takes only 30 seconds of your time. Here's the address:

RCT-6lettersfromh@gcemnf-wiraq.usmc.mil

It doesn't have to be the Gettysburg Address. Something as simple as "Hello, Marine. We thank you for what you're doing. You are in a noble task. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Best wishes & get home soon" is more than sufficient.

I sent an email. Won't you take a few minutes and do the same? These Marines are in service to us, doing their duty and making sacrifices to serve. Whatever your feelings about the war in Iraq, please set them aside and thank the Marines who go into harm's way when ordered to do their duty.

Semper Fi.

  1. I sent my email. Everyone knows that I loathe the war. In no small part because I think it abuses the loyalty of our soldiers, who I hold in high regard.

    Hello Travis,

    I didn't know whether it was appropriate for me to send one or not.. as I'm over here in the UK and not actually very supportive.

    Is the media over there negative about the marines? Over here the only negative media is directed at the politicians for sending our troops to Iraq. I don't think anyone is suggesting that the troops are wrong to have gone.

    I have sent one as they're a long way from home and there's no harm I can see in giving them a morale boost.

    The whole thing's just a huge can of worms for me though.

  1. Congrats on a your Bestest results my friend...and thanks oyu for being such a good friend to The Couch

  1. TopChamp,

    It's always appropriate to thank the troops, no matter where you live. Our actions in Iraq are divisive, and we agree that the troops are not to blame - they go where they are ordered and do their duty.

    Thank you for supporting the troops despite your thoughts on the war. Many feel the same as you.

    There are others who are in full support of our policy in Iraq. But I hope we can all agree that letting the troops know that we are here for them and that we thank them for their service and sacrifices is a separate and distinct act.

    Protest of policy is not protest against men and women in service to this country.

  1. Count me in and I'm going to post it on my sidebar! My eldest grandson will enter boot camp on 8/27! My husband's eldest grandson entered the Navy last month, so our buttons are bursting (yet mine our shaking, too!)
    Moms and grandmoms are like that.
    ~~~Blessings~~~
  1. Y'all rock for doing this. Thank you so much.
  1. Hey Travis, just stopped in for a quick hello!
    I am a proud parent of Sgt. Michael Martins who was killed in Miromar CA, he served in the USMC and did two tours in Iraq, IOF 2006-2008. I am so proud of our military men and women. I media today doesn't glorify our military but the american people do! We appreciate everyone of you serving and who has served. I pray that everyone of you come home soon, may God bring you home safe and sound. I know you are NOT alone, we are with you always no matter what. Your sacrifice is appreciated very very much. I can't thank you enough for what your doing out there. Again, thank you and please come home safe, I pray daily for that.
    Sincerely, Maria Martins, Cape Coral, FL
