Welcome to another Manic Monday with Morgen. Don't forget to cruise by MM HQ at It's A Blog Eat Blog World. Today's theme is Crisp.

I've chosen a yummy for today...Apple Crisp!

5 cups of apples
3/4 cup brown sugar
3/4 cup oats
1/2 cup flour
1/4 pound butter (about 1/2 cup)
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp salt
add lemon to taste
1/3 cup water
1/4 tsp nutmeg

Preheat a conventional oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (180 degrees Celsius). Thinly slice the apples and place them in a buttered pan, and sprinkle them with lemon for flavor and to prevent them from turning brown. Peeling the apples is traditional, but not required. Add 1/3 cup of water and cinnamon to taste.

Meanwhile, to make the topping combine the butter, sugar, oats, flour, cinnamon, salt, and nutmeg, and crumble the ingredients in a bowl with your fingers to create a uniform mixture. Cover the apples with the topping and bake for 30-45 minutes or until the apples are soft and the topping is crisped. Serve with ice cream or whipped cream. Loose oats can be sprinkled sparingly on the surface of the topping before baking for added texture. (quoted directly from Wikipedia)

I love ANYTHING with apple and cinnamon. That looks to be tasty.

  1. TopChamp says:

I had that for tea with custard on Saturday night when friends came over... bit of an odd menu perhaps: Chilli followed by apple and blackberry crumble (using oats) but I liked it. I'm very into Apple (& Blackberry) at the mo.

  1. TopChamp says:

Trav & Pam & Kyra: I'll cook it for you anytime!

  1. Travis says:

That sounds even better than the recipe I have over on my post today. I'll have to give it a try because there's no such thing as too many apple crisp recipes as far as I'm concerned!

  1. Oh, I so want a bit of that! :)

  1. Peeling the apples is not required? Who knew? (I don't think I've ever had apple crisp where the apples were not peeled.)

Thanks for your visit to my blog. :)

  1. Travis says:

Linda: But yours had ice cream!

CWM: I'm sure there's some leftover.

Parlancheq: My grandma used to make apple pie without peeling the apples.
