Saturday recap

We like Jake Locker, freshman QB for UW. We do. But you can't throw three interceptions against a ranked opponent. So now the Huskies have a proper benchmark for the season. Realistically, it was UW mistakes that finally allowed OSU to put the game out of reach. Locker threw two of his three picks when UW was threatening to score. Then there was a fumble on a kick return. So although the result is a 33-14 loss, we are still encouraged by the future for the Huskies.

We can say nothing positive about Notre Dame today. We peeked in here and there, and each time it seemed we were seeing a ND turnover or other bad play. So we quit checking. We could see the score getting worse on the CFF ticker during the UW game. With the difficulty of the Irish schedule, it is conceivable that they could be 0-8 when Navy comes to South Bend on Nov 3. And I'm not convinced they can beat the Midshipman. In fact, ND could lose to two service academies this season as Air Force visits South Bend a week after Navy. Duke follows, so perhaps the Irish will get that win. Duke hadn't won a game in two years until beating Northwestern today.

Just a quick baseball note. My Dodgers are doing this the hard way, but they are getting wins against the right teams at the right times now. They beat Arizona again today - sorry Songbird. Now the Dodgers are only a game behind San Diego in the wild card, and 3.5 behind Arizona for the NL West. They have four more games against the D'backs, seven against Colorado, before the final three against SF.
