Mo's Manic Monday - Earth

Welcome to Peace Week!
Today Morgen, our Manic Monday host, tells us that we should post about Earth. Don't forget to cruise by MM HQ at It's A Blog Eat Blog World.
I don't care whether you believe that the planet is warming. I don't care whether you accept the science. I don't care whether you think humans are wholly or partially responsible. I don't care whether you think it's a natural and inevitable thing.
Get it? I don't care.
I have studied some of the science. I have listened to both sides of the "humans are responsible" argument. I find the debate quite stupid because both sides agree that the planet is warming. The temperature is higher than it has been. The disagreement appears to be about the cause.
What difference does it make? The planet is getting warmer and resources are getting scarcer. It's not about whether we can reverse the effects anymore. The discussion needs to be about responsible behavior RIGHT NOW with the natural resources on which we depend for survival.
Waste is never responsible behavior.
Remember when your mom said "Clean your plate because there are children starving in Africa"?
Well, children are still starving in Africa and in other places around the globe.
Children are starving right here in the US dammit.
Wake up people!!
It doesn't matter a tinker's damn why the planet is warming. It simply is.
Preserve our precious resources. Don't waste. Do your part to extend the life of the resources we have.
The history of our planet is vast and millions of years of evolution are strewn with periods of change in climate and terrain. Thousands of species were unable to survive these changes, but thousands more adapted and endured. And thousands of new species emerged and thrived.
Climate change is a global catastrophe because it threatens our human way of life and the creature comforts we have come to rely on so heavily. Human tragedy in the face of rising temperatures scares the bejeebus out of us. We don't want the hardship.
I get that. It scares me a little too. Catastrophic change has a tendency to do that. Wanna scare some folks? Just use the phrase "the end of the world as we know it".
But what does that mean? Does it mean we're all gonna die? Maybe. But maybe not. It does mean we have to change.
Will humans adapt and endure? Let's at least give ourselves a chance. Let's quit arguing about why the earth is warming. Can we simply accept that it is and do whatever we can to preserve the resources we have?
Why is that such a difficult concept to grasp?
Here's a simple thing I learned when I was 4 years old about water conservation. There's no need to run the water in a constant stream while you brush your teeth.
Last night during Sunday Football Night in America, the studio crew turned their lights out as part of the Green is Universal Initiative. They did pre-game, halftime, and post-game shows in the dark. They say they conserved enough energy to power a single family home for a month. And they had some fun talking football by candle light.
And NBC has pledged to power down the studio lights when they are not on air for the rest of the season.
Wake up y'all. Do your part. Conserve. Recycle.
Just do it.
