Getting a little dance fix
Posted: Friday, February 15, 2008 by Travis Cody inThanks for the well wishes and the concern. I'll be back soon.
In the meantime, here's a little dance fix. PBS is running this year's America's Ballroom Challenge. It started two weeks ago with American Smooth style which features Waltz, Tango, Foxtrot, and Viennese Waltz. Last week was American Rhythm featuring Cha Cha Cha, Rumba, Swing, Bolero, and Mambo.
This week was International Standard featuring Waltz, Tango, Slow Foxtrot, Viennese Waltz, and Quickstep . These are the same styles as in the American Smooth, with the difference being that the couples must maintain five points of contact and with the addition of Quickstep. American Smooth is more free flowing. Some call it typcally American because it doesn't conform to the basic rules.
The clip features the six finalists in International Standard in the group dance round.
Now that's dancing. I love all ballroom and Latin styles, but there's just no beating the elegance and grace of International Standard.
If you enjoyed this, you can find more clips on youtube by searching on America's Ballroom Challenge. And if you have a local PBS station, you can catch the show on Wednesdays at 8pm.
Next week is International Latin which features Cha Cha Cha, Rumba, Samba, Jive, and Paso Doble. The following week is the finale, during which the champion couples in the four styles compete for America's Best Ballroom couple.
Thanks again for checking in and leaving your comments while I'm on hiatus. It means a lot.
Oh yeah...I re-stocked the CAKE.
See you soon.
Mmmmmmm
Thank you for the clips and a huge smile on my face.
