Thursday 13 - Tulips!

Well, I started out yesterday after work with 123 unread posts in Google Reader.

Yikes!

I'm down to 40 posts now. I'm flipping the list upside down, so if I didn't get to you last night you'll be first in line tonight.



Now let's see some tulips! You can click on any photo to biggify.

1. Last Saturday, Pam and I headed north to the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival. The weather was fantastic...a little hazy, but enough blue sky and sunshine to make us smile. That's Mt Baker in the distance.

2. Well, we went to see tulips. But the first thing we saw was daffodils!

3. Aren't they pretty?

4. But we went to see tulips, and tulips we finally saw.

5. This guy was stubbornly growing off by himself.

6. This field of white tulips was one of Pam's favorites.

7. So there's really a place called Tulip Town. I'm not kidding.

8. We loved this tree.

9. Check out the colorful fields.

10. I didn't know tulips could be orange.

11. I think I liked the pink ones best.

12. Classic yellow is nice too.

13. But now here's the real hi-light of the day! Sleek and elegant. We saw the Baby Bird on our way home. I shot the pic on the fly...luckily we were in pretty slow traffic.

We had a wonderful day.

    I've always planned to make the drive to see the tulips - it's not THAT far for me... but, just haven't done it yet. They are so lovely - makes me want to go buy myself a bouquet!

    Lovely T-Bird - I agree - seeing it would be worth driving all day :)

    I adore tulips, and I've always wanted to see Skagit Valley. Alas, I didn't live in Bremerton all that long and never made it out there. Perhaps one day we'll make back up there for vacay and we'll schedule it in time for the festival.

    Tulips in abundant colors that form their very own rainbow. It dosn't get any better than that. Thanks Travis for sharing, what a wonderful sight to wake up to.

    I'm so glad I have a vase of them now...if not-I would be going out to buy some!

    Had to giggle a bit over your unread blog posts dilemma and that you will flip it and start from the other end when you pick up again today. Made me think about how many times I run out of steam and do the same thing here!

    Beautiful pictures of the tulips and daffodils too though. I have daffodils blooming now in front of my living room window and some tulips have poked through the ground now too and will be blooming soon as well. Love to see that happen.

    Wow, fields of flowers! I could go see that. I've seen other colors of tulips too in Europe - dark purple was my favorite. Liked that T-bird as well :o) Happy TT!

    Beautiful pics dear... I've always loved tulips. There were some wild ones growing by the old place...

    The daffodils remind me of Alabama in March *sigh*

    OOH! and I think I saw something coming out of the ground in front of the house!

    I love it that you feature all the pretty flowers, then end up with the hot car!
    There is a town in Michigan (Holland, Michigan, actually!) that is very similar! Lots of tulips everywhere.

    How awesome! I love daffodils, too. They're the nat'l flower of Wales, whose patron St. is David ("Dafyd" in Welsh--I'm sure there's a connection there.) The tulips & old car were also very neat!

    I've forgotten about that festival. heard about it a few years ago. WOW...that had to have been awesome!

    Wow, Trav, those are some awesome photos. All the way through though, I kept thinking that I still liked #1 best... then I saw the Baby Bird and my tongue fell out of my mouth. Birds seem to be coming into my life right now (already have 2 budgie birds, am getting a cockatiel as soon as I get a cage for it, and another budgie as soon as it's old enough to leave the nest... and now I've just agreed to birdie sit a parrot for 3 months starting this Monday, and maybe keep it forever), but none of these birds come close to the Bird in your photo. I've always loved the old 50 something T-Birds.

    Whoof! Hi Travis. My Mom 'Bean used to have a '69 Olds Cutlass convertible and the dog she had, D-O`-G, rode in the back seat all the time. Sure sounds good to me, Bark, bark.

    Kidlet and I may hit the Woodburn tulip festival. We thought about it last weekend but ended up doing a four hour drive through the country and coast. It was lovely!

    Breathtaking!!! We're really close to the big Jackson Perkins rose farms. Driving by and seeing hundreds of acres of roses in bloom is an incredible experience!
    I think it's interesting that the Dutch used tulips bulbs for currency!!! I wonder if the pink were the most expensive!

    Meri: They smelled so good at Tulip Town too.

    Alice: We actually saw two Baby Birds. This black one, and then a white '55. We couldn't get a pic of the white one though.

    Reba: Cool!

    Misty: Even though there was a lot of traffic and so many people, it was still kind of relaxing. We definitely needed to get out and about.

    Roger: It really was! And we picked the right weekend to go for weather...we've got cold and some snow this weekend!

    Starr: We're planning a trip to the coast for one of these weekends coming up when the weather finally turns for good.
