Wooooooooooooooooooo!!!!! Dodgers 3, Cubs 1.

My Dodgers closed out the Cubs 3 games to none in the National League Division Series! It's the first post season series win for the Dodgers since they won the World Series in 1988.

Hiroki Kuroda scattered 4 hits over 6 and a third scoreless innings before yielding to Cory Wade, who gave up Chicago's only run in the top of the 8th. Jonathan Broxton came in and shut the Cubs down and gets credit for the save.

James Loney and Russell Martin each hit RBI doubles.

The Dodgers now wait for the winner of the series between Philadephia and Milwaukee. The Phillies lead that series 2 games to 1, with game 4 in Milwaukee today.

Irish sophomore QB Jimmy Clausen had a huge passing day against Stanford, throwing for 347 yards on 29 of 40, with 3 TDs. Freshman WR Michael Floyd stepped up with 5 catches for 115 yards.

The defense intercepted 3 passes and forced a fumble. Stanford made a late run with two 4th quarter TDs. The Irish were able to hold on and win 28-21.

Notre Dame is now 4-1. They need to prove they can win on the road as they travel to North Carolina next week to take on the Tarheels. I'm wondering if the Irish will make it into the AP Top 25 this week.

It looks like order was restored this week after there were 9 upsets among ranked teams last weekend.

1 Oklahoma beat Baylor, 49-17
2 Alabama beat Kentucky, 17-14
3 LSU, idle
4 Missouri beat Nebraska
5 Texas beat Colorado, 38-14
6 Penn State beat Purdue, 20-6
7 Texas Tech beat Kansas State, 58-28
8 BYU beat Utah State, 34-14
9 USC beat #23 Oregon, 44-10
10 South Florida lost 26-21 to Pittsburgh

Well we've got the Seahawks at the Giants in the morning on FOX. Then in the afternoon on CBS we get New England at San Francisco. Cool.

I slipped a bit with picks last week at 8-5. That makes it 39-21 for the season for 65% winners. Here are my picks for today.

Titans over Ravens
Panthers over Chiefs
Bears over Lions
Packers over Falcons
Colts over Texans
Chargers over Dolphins
Giants over Seahawks
Redskins over Eagles
Broncos over Bucs
Bills over Cardinals
Cowboys over Bengals
49ers over Patriots
Jaguars over Steelers
Saints over Vikings

You really think the Titans will win? LOL!

Sorry, I'm laughing. I can... I'm from Nashville... LOL

    Congratulations to your Dodgers!
Maybe your Fighting Irish will climb into the top 10 before the season is finished.

While I am pleased to have my Sooners ranked No. 1, I still see some issues on the defensive side of the ball for them.
Since they get No. 5 Texas this Saturday in the "Red River Shootout", we will see if they can truly play pass defense in the secondary. It has been their downfall in the BCS the past five years.

  1. Travis, am going to watch the Giants game on satellite today at my nephew's house. He wants us to watch all 12(?) games but I think I'll fade after the Giants beat the Seahawks... Have a good day!

  1. Oh and congrats to the Dodgers!

  1. Whether or not the Irish crack the Top 25 is icing; I'm thrilled they have a winning record thus far!

Congrats on your Dodgers' sweep. And once again, the Cubs fail. No surprise.

  1. Akelamalu: Hi!

Lois: Well, Tenn is 4-0. Balt is 2-1. The Tenn defense is in the top third of the league. The Balt offense is in the bottom third in total offense. On the other hand, the Balt defense is one of the best in the league, and the Tenn offense average. So I went with a gut feeling.

Drilleraa: I don't know about Top 10. They have to prove they can win on the road. I'm looking forward to next Saturday. They key could be that Oklahoma is at home.

Teach: Enjoy the game! I suspect there will be some disappointment in our house today, although Pam is a realist about her Seahawks.

Songbird: So far so good on the Irish. We'll see what happens when they go on the road. If Clausen can continue to play as he has, maybe we can win a few more.

  1. USC beat Oregon that bad? when I was watching it the game was close and I thought Oregon might pull it out.

    Arkansas lost, again. Sigh

  1. I think it should be illegal to "force a fumble"....it sounds so violent. I'll just have some cake and leave now.

    Thank you kindly.

The Oklahoma v Texas game is always played in the Cotton Bowl in Dallas. It is about equal distance between Norman, Oklahoma and Austin, Texas Both schools get 32,000 tickets. The field is split at the 50 yard line. While one team may be designated the home team, it only means they get to wear the home jerseys. It is an incredible college football tradition that I hope never goes away.

The Cubs haven't won a World Series in 100 years. Now it will be at least 101.

    Congratulations to your Dodgers!

Isn't it a WONDERFUL feeling when your team wins!!

  1. Charles: It was close for a few minutes and then USC exploded.

Mimi: Football is a violent game. But you're always welcome to some CAKE.

Drilleraa: I can't believe I didn't remember that. It's going to be a huge game.

Jennifer: All that talk about this being the team to finally break the curse. Sometimes you just have to play it out without all the talk and see what happens.

  1. I hope you are very happy....smile.
