And then there were three...

Cue that theme music and let's have some results!

It's a double-super-mega-step-over-lip-lock kinda show! For those of you who just can't handle the pressure, skip on down and see who will be the last three couples competing for the fabulous mirror ball trophy.

For all the rest, buckle up bay-bees cause we got a party going on!

OK...I get a little carried away.

First up I have a special encore for my friend Julie.

This is the Mambo from Lance and Lacey.

They danced like they were there to win it. This Jitterbug is terrific! And Lance blows a tire in the first 30 seconds but never misses a beat.

Let's check out our leader board from Monday night.

57 Lance and Lacey
49 Warren and Kym
49 Brooke and Derek
46 Cody and Julianne

Yup...judges agreed with me that Lance and Lacey ruled the night.

We've got Aretha in the ballroom. And John Legend. And Leona Louis. And even Julianne Hough sings! Plus the ballroom kids dance for our votes. We will not be voting unless we can do so evenly for all of the kids.

First up, it's Kirill and Hannah dancing Cha Cha Cha as coached by Tony Dovolani. Some of the lines these kids hit are amazing. Excellent combination of classic Cha Cha Cha with age appropriate modern movements. Great job! Len says the footwork was crisp and clean with great leg action...truly fabulous. Bruno praised the precision arm placement and recognized the lines. Carrie Ann was totally impressed.

Next we have Mitchell and Maria dancing Samba as coached by Julianne Hough. These kids are technically outstanding and dance much older than their ages. He is an excellent lead. Bruno calls it a power Samba with staccato sharp movements. Carrie Ann calls them sophisticated and graceful, and praises Mitchell as a partner. Len compared them to young Julianne Hough and Mark Ballas, calling Mitchell and Maria better. Wow.

Finally we have Craig and Samantha dancing Jive as coached by Maks Chmerkovskiy. Lots of energy and complex choreography. They really went for it with non-stop movement. Another excellent performance. Carrie Ann said they were fantastic, bringing the characters to life. Len was knocked out by the terrific flicks and quicks. Bruno said it had a light quality, and said they floated through the dance.

While only one of the kid couples gets the fabulous little mirror ball trophy, all six kids get trips to Disneyland! Good luck to all!

Now we come to the double-super-mega-step-over-lip-lock portion of our program. HA!

Aretha Franklin y'all! She sounds fantastic singing Chain of Fools accompanied by Karina Smirnof, Anna Trebunskaya, Dimitry Chaplin (from SYTYCD), and Louis van Amstel.

Now we have Leona Louis, performing Bleeding Love accompanied by Maks and Karina. I love this song. This song was part of a signature moment last season on So You Think You Can Dance, when Chelsea Hightower and Mark Kanemura interpreted the brilliant choreography of Tabitha and Napoleon D'Umo.

Julianne Hough sings her country hit Hallelujah Song accompanied by Lacey, Derek, and Mark Ballas. She sounds pretty good and of course the dancing is excellent!

John Legend was fantastic. My computer crashed right in the middle of the performance. Dangit!

Aretha returns to perform Respect, accompanied by current champs Kristy Yamaguchi and Mark Ballas. Yeah baby!

OK, fun over now. Let's get to it.

First to advance to next week's performance finale are Lance and Lacey. They will be joined by Brooke and Derek. The last couple to advance is...

Warren and Kym!

Awwwwww...that means Cody and Julianne are out.

One more week and we'll have our champion!

Later gang.

But you ALSO included one of my all-time best SYTYCD moments!!!!!!!!

    *swoon*

    Thank you!

    Thank you!

    Thank you!

    *grin*

Lance and Lacey ALL THE WAY BAYBEEEEE!!!

  1. Anndi says:

I'm going to go watch it again!

    SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!

Also, I'm happy that Ms Leachman has recovered from her own lung thingy and is doing much better. :)

When the show 'starts' out with Aretha first thing, you KNOW it's gonna be a whizbang show. All of it was awesome.

Everytime I hear Bleeding Love, I think of the SYTYCD routine...how funny.

Results come out as I expected, so next week should be REALLY good....yeah Free Style!!

Every time I hear bleeding love, I think of So You Think You Can Dance. That was just a brilliant routine that captivated my attention from the get go and quickly made them my favorite. :)

I hated to see Cody go last night. The top 4 is a tough decision, though. They're all amazing!

    Great recap.

  1. Oh my, maybe if I watched this stuff I would mellow out.....:)

gotta love dancing with the stars.. personally i just get a kick outta your reviews;)

  1. Ivanhoe says:

Please let that be Brooke or Lance. I really do not have a preference which one ;o)

  1. Dianne says:

I really enjoyed last night's show. The junior dancers were exceptional!! Impossible to choose.

Cody is such a good kid :)

  1. I saw some of the kids, but could not watch all as the radio show was almost near...

Aretha was most excellent, as was John legend...I love the song by Leona Lewis, but for some reason, last night it did not ring true for me.

    Julianne was ok...

the dancing on all the numbers was incredibly wonderful.

Let me ask you...sometimes I think the audience is cheering more for the dancers then they are for the performers...

Also, I figured out their "Who is staying" routine...

The camera always shows three couples and 9 out of 10 times it is the first couple the camera hits that is the one they announce...

One more week and then we let you rest for a spell before SYTYCD comes on!

It'll all be over before you know it! What you gonna do then hon?

  1. Lois: Should be the last time though.

Tookie: Hard to tell, but it should be a terrific finale.

Ann: I couldn't hear Leona Louis sing that song without thinking of that SYTYCD moment.

Marsha: Can't wait to see what Lacey throws down for choreography!

CWM: I think a lot of people do. That was one of the all time best moments.

Sarge: I don't think there's anything wrong with having strong opinions. Where we run into trouble is when we think our own opinion is the only correct one.

Wolfbaby: I'm glad you enjoy them.

Ivanhoe: I think I could be ok with any winner at this point, although I'll continue voting for Lance and Lacey.

    Dianne: No choosing!

V: I think it's a bit of both. I'm usually more interested in the dancers than the singers.

Akelamalu: After I recover from withdrawals, perhaps I'll try some of the writing prompts.

  1. Hmmm....I must watch. If I don't watch I have no reason to grumble or pontificate.

So I'll just have a piece of chocolate cake while I'm here and wave....see me?

  1. Oh! Love the banner!

I need to go back and watch the kids.
I thought Julianne was better than Taylor Swift.
Actually I thought the Queen of Soul sounded a little old and tired. As much as I really wanted that to go well, it just lacked a little something for me. The one DWTS singer just needs to lose the head jewelry. It's not a good signature.
I had a feeling that Cody was in trouble. Warren just has more personality and obviously developed a larger fan base over the season. I still think Brooke gets the mirror ball after the last dance.
    See ya next week.

The Mambo with Lance and Lacey was just the hottest thing that I have seen in awhile! The song was amazing and the choreography fit perfect.

Sorry it is almost over. I know you thrive on these posts!!

  1. Akelamalu says:

Ooooh I'll look forward to reading what you come up with Trav. :)

  1. Mimi: You may pontificate if you like. And I guarantee you'll enjoy the show if you watch.

Drilleraa: You might be right about Brooke, but she better bring her A game because I have a feeling L&L's show dance is going to rock it.

Jennifer: I do, but I'm also ready for a break.

    Starr: Yeah baby!

Akelamalu: And I look forward to writing it!

  1. I haven't caught many of the shows...and am so grateful for your recaps...

  1. Carletta says:

    Hi Travis,
I came over from Dianne's. She said to check out your rundown.
    I LOVE this show!!!!
So, are you cheering for Lance?
I, for one, hate to see it end!

Now I have to scroll back up and read your post on Ace of Cakes - I love him. The show is awesome.
I maybe should visit here more often. :)

  1. Julie says:

Aww thanks for posting Cody's last dance for me. What a number!
