Bookworm Meme

So I'm ridiculously busy these days. It's a good thing I had a vacation last week. I'll tell the story of why I'm so busy another time.

My "to do" list keeps getting longer and there are over 400 unread posts in my reader. GAH! Hopefully I'll be able to start catching up later this week and through the weekend.

I guess this is a good time to do this Bookworm Meme, because there's no time to go into the reasons why I have no time. Ya follow?

I got tagged by a few folks for this one. I hope I don't miss anyone. I'm sorry if you tagged me and I haven't seen your post yet. I always like to link back when I participate in memes.

Meribah from The Puppy's Place
Julia from A Piece of my Mind
Jamie from Duward Discussion

Here's the rules:

Pass it on to five other bloggers, and tell them to open the nearest book to page 46. Write out the fifth sentence on that page, and also the next two to five sentences. The closest book, not the coolest, or the one you think will sound the best. THE CLOSEST.

It's the honor system here, so you'll have to believe that I did select the closest. It was a near thing, because I have a stack of books to my left and the book I'm currently reading to my right. The book on my right was closest by about four inches.

Heheheheeee!

The book is called Academ's Fury, which is book two of a series called The Codex Alera by Jim Butcher. I finished book one while on vacation and I can report that this is a rollicking good entry in the epic fantasy adventure genre. The series has my highest recommendation.

And yes indeed, that is the same Jim Butcher who writes the Harry Dresden series.

From page 46:

"Books."
"Books," Doroga said. "Or the drawing speech your people use in them. But we are an old people, and not without our own knowledge."

Thanks for the tag! I'm a rule breaker and won't do any tagging. But feel free to grab this one if you like.

I haven't forgotten about my Dancing recap from last week's finale. We watched at my sister's place and enjoyed the show. I'll get to that post soon, and I'll catch up with my blog rounds as I can.

I hope your busy-ness is for something good! I'm intrigued.

Sadly all books are a walk away so I'll skip this meme for now.

  1. OH MY GOD! I left my book at home! I will do this later, Trav. I have to go hyperventilate into a brown paper bag now.

  1. Dianne says:

I love that his meme is spreading all over :)

hope your busy-ness doesn't wear away at your vacationy feeling

    take it easy

  1. Interesting that the meme landed you on something where "books" were mentioned. Now that's a synchronicity.

  1. Akelamalu says:

I have a stack of books to read but somehow just don't seem to have the time what with Christmas shopping and prep! :(

  1. Kanani says:

I'm traveling starting tomorrow so can't do the meme. But I've left something for everyone on my blog.

But here goes... I'll do the meme just here:

"I imagined listening to the BBC from London, or HCJB from Quito, Ecuador. The Voice of the Andes. We listened to them at home some nights. Seeing the SW on the radio reaffirmed how special Porsches were. My mother had just gotte a new car, but it was a Chrsyler Newport. A brown one. Why didnt she have a car like that?"

From my friend John Robison's book, Look Me In The Eye, my life with asperger's".

  1. Sandee says:

This is a fun meme indeed. Haven't read this book. Have a great day. :)

You can mark all mine as read... I'll make it easy..

I'm okay and sending you a big hug... There... that proabably saved you from reading and commenting on ten posts out of four hundred...LOL!

  1. The busyness is much more important than reading blogs...

    I know a secret...LOL

  1. Anndi says:

I'm currently reading a book that somehow I had started a while back but for some reason misplaced and found again and Travis, you would howl at some of the bits. I laughed out loud while sitting in the waiting room with Chicklet.

"The Life and Times of The Thunderbolt Kid" by Bill Bryson.

    GENIOUS!!!

  1. I'm with Charles. It is weird that your book is about books when you're doing a book meme. But I like!

Take care and slooowww down. Just clear your reader and start again. Sometimes ya just have to do that.

  1. wow...what a cool meme! I should try this. Thanks for stopping by my blog!

I am reading Eclipse from the Twilight series. I will spare you an excerpt :)

Slow down or at least tell us why you are to busy to tell us why you are so busy... I'm dizzy.

  1. TC: It's definitely good.

    Starr: Breathe!

Dianne: Not to worry...the fun from vacation is still strong.

Charles: I thought that was pretty cool too.

Akelamalu: I won't have that issue this season, so I expect to be able to make time to finish my stack.

Kanani: Excellent! Hopefully I'll get over to your place before you get back from your travels. LOL!

Sandee: If you like epic fantasy, you may like this one.

    Lois: HA!

    V: Mum's the word!

Ann: I'll have to look into that one!

Mimi: I hope to read as many posts as I can, but I can't guarantee I'll go too far back into last week.

Merelyme: It was pretty easy. And I love to read so there's always a book or seven close by.

Jennifer: I think by the end of the week I'll have my busy under control.

  1. Linda says:

I truly understand the whole way too busy stuff! You have my sympathy and understanding more than you'll ever know!

    Great job on the meme!

  1. Julie says:

Yeah but you're a sexy bookworm rule breaker!

  1. Mimi: Another meme!

Linda: I'm determined to try and read as many posts as possible without just marking all as read.

    Julie: Awww shucks!

  1. As it happened the book I had to quote from was one I hadn't read, "The Storyteller". Books and the stories in them seem to happen don't they?

Love that it is spreading. It is nice to know that the printed page has not as yet been irradicated by TV or computer.

  1. So far everyone who's done this meme have had cool books sitting close to them. A conspiracy...?

  1. That's ironic...what your blurb turned out to be! Mine wouldn't be half as interesting, considering the closest book is about "selling art w/o galleries" (& it wasn't a very good book, either.) Thanks for sharing!
