Mo's Manic Monday - Tradition

Welcome to another Manic Monday with Morgen. Don't forget to cruise by MM HQ at the Manic Monday blog. Today's theme is Tradition.

I don't have any year end traditions.

Wait...I take it back. There is one year end tradition I have.

I'm usually asleep well before midnight. I've just never been all that much into this celebration of the turning of a new day. It's just entropy.

I'm not a new year's grinch...just a bit of a pragmatist when it comes to time. You can't stop time. You can't slow it down. You can't speed it up. It is what it is.

All you can do is make the best of the moments you have.

So, perhaps my year end tradition should be a sort of toast in the form of a haiku.

Here's to the moments
The one's past, and those to come
For they are our lives

    Love the cat picture!
Boy, all of a sudden, reading your post and the mention of "celebration" and it dawned on me -New Year's Day! Where the hell is my mind? I'm thinking about the Rose Bowl, yes, the game, parade, etc. but I had forgotten all about our big tradition for New Year's Day here -pork and sauerkraut with hot dogs thossed in for good measuer too! Gotta have that for New Year's for good luck, ya know. Considering how crappy my luck has often seemed over the years, apparently I haven't eaten near enough pork and kraut I would guess, although I have given it the old college try, for sure! Other celebrating though -haven't done any of that it probably at least 10 years or better now. Sometimes many of us do grow up a little and don't feel the need to part9-hearty till you get sick or pass out any more to bring the New Year in. Took a while for that to take hold on me but eventually it did!
    Happy New Year!

We always 'party' on New Year's Eve - that's our tradition - usually with friends. :)

  1. Cheesy says:

The tradition here is usually a power outage?
So scrabble by candlelight... I better get the bottle opener out and ready... Makes for a stressful eve if you can't open the libations!

  1. Like you, I tend to SLEEP the New Year in ... and once upon a time I watched the Rose Parade on TV, but these days let my sister do that and tell me about it later. I do love Haiku ;--)
    Hugs and blessings,

  1. That sounds like a good New Year message to me.

we sleep through it, too..just another day...

  1. Dianne says:

    Proceed! Indeed!

    Wonderful sentiments

I'm not much of a New Year's person.

You are such a smart cookie, Travis!

  1. Ivanhoe says:

I used to party party party. Now I just stay home and sometimes not even make it to midnight either ;o)

  1. Just make the best of the moments you have. A very good point. I'm too often guilty of looking ahead or looking back.

Love that cat pic. Got a good laugh.

  1. I'm not much of a party person myself, unless it's a small gathering of fun friends. One year, a group of us tried out the ginormous block party that is held here every New Year's. We ditched it before midnight and "celebrated" it at the home of one of the group instead.

Wise words, Trav! I go to bed early, just as I do any other night!

  1. I hate the going out part of NYE, which is why I began the dinner party tradition...

Maybe someday you and Pam can join us

  1. Julie says:

Well....I suppose I'll be enjoying a little wine and catching up on blogs!

    **sigh**

    Unless I fall asleep!

    Bwhahahahaha!

  1. My New Year's plans should be "interesting" this year. But I totally agree about making each day a new day and a new opportunity.
Raising a glass to you and Pam.

Love the haiku! So true, so very true.

I have no New Year's traditions myself other than to take down the old calendar and put up the new. I might reflect for a moment or two on the year gone by and wonder what the new one will bring but that's about it. No parties, no resolutions, no traditions. I kind of like it that way.

  1. Kanani says:

Ha! That cat looks positively mennacing!

I don't have any year-end traditions except trying to get my bills paid on time!
We are going to a neighbors house for NYE, then on NYD, we go to another neighbors home to play horseshoes and cards. I guess when I had my own party on the 26, I started another neighborhood tradition, the DAC party! It's all fun, my neighbors are great.

  1. My goodness - what a great poem. I think your post can even count for Poetry Train Monday.

Can I just say that an original 'Star Wars' marathon is my idea of bliss...?

  1. Jeni: It'll be a day full of bowl games for us too.

    Akelamalu: Party safe!

Cheesy: HA! Keep the bottle opener right next to the flashlight and matches.

Storyteller: I haven't watched the parade in ages. Maybe we'll check it out.

    Anthony: It works pretty well.

    Lois: Yup yup.

Dianne: That's one of my favorite LOLCATs.

    Hope: Awwww shucks!

    Laughingwolf: Indeed.

Ivanhoe: Parties have their time and place I guess. I'm just not into it anymore.

Charles: As long as we remember to live in the moment, it's ok.

Songbird: I like the idea of small gatherings. Those are fun. Now that the weather is beginning to cooperate again, we'll try to get a game night going.

WT4W: And that makes for more time to do stuff in the day time!

V: The small dinner party is a great idea.

Julie: Good ideas all around. Especially the falling asleep part!

Mimi: I hope you have a wonderful bloggable evening rather than the silly kind. Silly is good, but you deserve some wonderful too.

    Linda: Simple is better.

Kanani: Well that sounds like fun. And safe to be able to walk a couple of houses down to your own place.

Julia: I never even thought of that. It's my first PTM! And of course you may say that with my agreement.

  1. Marilyn says:

I'm usually asleep before midnight too... but I do make a big pot of black eyed peas on New Years day for luck and I try not to sweep. I was told you sweep all the good luck out if you sweep on New Years... you are supposed to clean on New Year's Eve, but I don't always.

    Happy New Years

  1. I agree. I've never been a big New Years eve party type guy. I used to go over some friends house and we sit around talking and such and welcome the New Years in but since they've moved I am usually at home.

  1. That haiku ROCKED! I REALLY liked it! And the fact that you said, "proceed" with the cat pic...

Gave me a good chuckle. Perfectly timed.

  1. TopChamp says:

You do your own thing at New Year. I've had plenty of slightly disappointing evenings trying to make it a bigger deal than I feel it is really.

I like to see in the New Year rather than to party with fireworks etc. I love to review the past year and to refresh my efforts or think about what new direction I want to take. It's a good time to do it for me.

    Each to their own.

  1. Kitty is awesome! And I think you have it right Trav. Live for the now =)

  1. Polly says:

My sister insists on celebrating New Year's Eve by going to bed early. That way she starts out the new year on the best foot possible. Well, rested, healthy food...not tired from the previous night. I'm usually practical in thought, but another side of me wins out. :)

  1. Kimmie says:

What an adorable cat pic! Loved your sentiments also.

I stay up and watch the countdown every year. I like New Years Rockin Eve. But then I just hop in bed afterwards. Its always been a quiet night at home for years. I like it best that way also.

Wishing You and Pam...and Mr. Tucker...

    A Very Happy New Year!

    Hugs,
    Kimmie
