Mo's Manic Monday - Tree

Welcome to another Manic Monday with Morgen. Don't forget to cruise by MM HQ at the Manic Monday blog. Today's theme is Tree.

Well what else would I post for this theme but pictures of the trees around our place, covered in snow!! These are pictures I took Thursday or Friday last week. We got more snow throughout Saturday night and into Sunday morning. Then we had scattered snow showers all day on Sunday.

And it's freakin' cold!

We're still snowed in because we don't have shovels or plows to take care of the driveway that would get us to the main road. See the banner I made for this post? That's the way to the main road. This morning it is covered by at least 6" of snow, with a layer of ice underneath it.

Now if we could make it to the main road, the plows and de-icers have been doing a great job of keeping the freeways reasonably clear as long as you drive carefully. Pam's route to work is relatively flat, so she could probably get to her office downtown.

But I have to go to Seattle and my route is full of hills, both steep and not so steep. Vehicles are still sliding all over these surface streets. So we're doing what we think is the smart thing and working from home. If trying to drive on icy roads makes me a wuss, then mea culpa.

We are getting a bit stir crazy though. Later this morning or early this afternoon, maybe we'll try a little walk up to the main road and see what we can see.

Until I can be certain of my route all the way to my office, and all the way back home again, I'm staying put.

Happy Holidays and Joyous Yule to you!

  1. Wow! I think it is gorgeous, minus the safety issues - too bad something so beautiful has to be so dangerous. I guess that can be said for all things "nature!"
    Glad you weren't anywhere near that overpass..
    Stay home, keep warm and enjoy the interlude.
    ~~~Blessings~~~
  1. But they are such beautiful pictures. Hope you make it out soon. And I loved the pic of the Green Man at the end.
  1. Wonderful photos, Travis. If you feel better staying at home for now, well then stay at home and to heck with what anyone else thinks. I'm happy for you that you have a job where you can stay home when roads are bad.
    We also have had record breaking cold temperatures here and a lot of snow. There is no doubt that we will be having a white Christmas here this year.
    While I sit here nursing a sick chinchilla back to health, having a broken down pellet stove and a frozen/broken water main under my home, as well as my rear wheels on my truck keep freezing up between times I drive it... I am totally ready for some warmer weather.
    Best wishes to you and Pam for a Merry Christmas and most awesome 2009.
    WE never have it that bad here, thank goodness. You're very wise staying put methinks, hope you've got plenty of supplies. Knowing you though you could go and gather a few nuts and roots and turn out a feast for a king! LOL
    Take care m'dear.
  1. Anndi says:
    Here, snow tires are compulsory.
    I was going to go out yesterday afternoon to do a bit of Christmas shopping but we had a snowstorm, so we stayed put. There are still three days left, right?
    I love your pics, Trav! Stay warm!!!
  1. That's the way to do it Travis - just stay put! No shovels, no backbreaking shoveling! Smart guy! And working from home! Happy Holidays and Happy Winter Solstice! Isn't that Green Man incredible? :)
  1. Cheesy says:
    I wish more people would stay home in this mess! Wonder how I could maybe work from home?? hmmmmm
    Travis, your neighborhood is pretty.Aand the snow on the fir trees... simply beautiful!
  1. Dianne says:
    the shot of the house thru the trees is gorgeous - the house looks all warm and golden against the stark trees
    stay safe and warm - I'm sure you can find stuff to entertain yourselves if you really think about it ;)
  1. oh man trav! lala didn't make it to seattle either. she got as far as charlotte and the flight was cancelled yesterday stranding her there. they flew her to atlanta and her mom picked her up. she is hoping to get home tomorrow. poor aero is still all alone. awful!
    It's great that you can work from home! Snow is very pretty, but treacherous! That is why Mom doesn't live in New England anymore... winters!
    Awww, poor Lala and Aero. They must miss each other terribly!
  1. Ivanhoe says:
    Have a wonderful Christmas, Trav! And stay warm :o)
  1. Linda says:
    Wow! From the looks of those pictures, you could have taken them from my house where it's a very cold 14 degrees with a really nasty wind that makes it feel like about 10 below. Brrr!
    I admire you for having the good sense to stay put when the roads are bad; so many others just decide to tackle them and in the long run, it's just not worth it. Better to be home safe and bored than on the road otherwise.
  1. WOW! That is SO beautiful! I love that you're all snowed in... there's something magical about that, even vicariously. Enjoy it for me, will ya? :)
    Happy MM and Merry Christmas!
  1. Polly says:
    Ooh...I love your tree/leaf man. The snowy trees look beautiful to me, but I'm not there stuck inside.
    We used to live up there and I can guarantee that you are doing the right thing by not driving on the ice. Since they aren't as used to it, it's all the worse to drive in.
  1. The Green Man! Lovely picture.
    We are now at 14 inches in Hillsboro. They shut down my office today so I am home. Lovely!
  1. DrillerAA says:
    I know that the snow is more fun to look at than to deal with, but he photos are wonderful. I don't think we're going to have a White Christmas, cold maybe, but not white.
    Love the mask at the bottom of the post. Where did that come from?
  1. and brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
    great shots Travis...hope there is milk and bread (LOLOLOL) galore!
  1. Hey, if you've got a reason to stay home. Take it. Definitely have that walk. It should be interesting. How deep is it?
  1. Cherie says:
    They have zero capacity to deal with the white stuff where I live, so the town completely shuts down until it melts. How great that you and Pam can work from home.
    In the mean time you have a very pretty place in which to go stir crazy. ;)
  1. thx trav
    season's blessings to you and yours :D
  1. Y'all have really been hammered by this storm. Yikes! I don't envy you, especially since I know that your area is unprepared for weather like this.
  1. Gracie: Like anything that has an element of danger, the key is to be sensible. That's how we're handling it.
    Anthony: We may be able to get out tomorrow. Maybe not all the way to my office, but at least down the street to Freddie's to get the fixings for our holiday meal.
    Alice: GAH! We've been lucky not to lose power or have any problems with pipes freezing. I've been concerned, but temps haven't gotten below about 12 degrees, so I think we'll be ok.
    Akelamalu: We've got plenty of the basics, but we're definitely going to try and get to the grocery tomorrow.
    Ann: I have all weather tires, but only 2 wheel drive and that's just not cutting it.
    Hope: We're definitely cozy indoors.
    Mary: I love the Green Man! This is the second year that we're really focusing on the solstice as our celebration, and we're enjoying it. We still have so much to learn. It's fun!
    Cheesy: Based on the news this morning, it looks like people have finally gotten the message and are staying home.
    Lois: Ya know, our condo complex actually seems like one of the places y'all might park your trella for a few days. It has that wooded campground kinda feel.
    Dianne: It really is quite the spot. It would be perfect if it wasn't for the 8 legged critters.
    Bee: It's really rough right now. I hate to think she won't be able to get home for their first holiday as a married couple.
    G&G: I'll have to plan better for next year. I'd rather have the stuff and not need it, then sit here and not be able to dig out day after day.
  1. Ivanhoe: It's going to be a white one for sure.
    Linda: One of my colleagues, who is originally from NE and who was making fun of how cautious we've been with this weather, finally acknowledged today that we were having a "real" winter storm!
    Clancy: We shall endeavor to enjoy it just for you. Well, the truth is that we're loving it too. It's just a pain not to be able to get out.
    Polly: I'm starting to get over the guilty feelings of not going to the office. I can work from home, and I'm getting my stuff done.
    Starr: I hope you get to take PTO!
    Drilleraa: It's called the Green Man, and it is a representation of nature and a symbol of rebirth or the cycle of growth each spring.
    V: Lots of bread and PB. And rice, mac & cheese, and coffee!
    Charles: We had a short walk, but it was too tough to navigate. It's about 7" deep in spots, and as much as 9" deep in others.
    Cherie: I think we'd be ok if someone could come down with a plow and some de-icer. But crews have their hands full keeping the main roads clear.
    Flying Monkeys: It is that!
    Laughingwolf: And a Joyous Yule to you.
  1. Y'all are getting slammed up there too, right Trav? We are looking at another possible 3 inches tonight. I took PTO today since I had to take Kidlet back to her dad. He tightened up my chains and put some bungee cords on them for me as well, so tomorrow I am gonna try for it. I actually had a few dicey moments driving. We have huge ruts dug by chains with 12+ inch walls around them. Spooky
  1. Brrrrr.....!! I hope you don't get any more precipitation. It must be getting old by now.
    Did you buy plenty of bread and milk?
  1. Raven says:
    Beautiful photos! We had a lot of snow too. I think you are wise to stay off the roads, especially in a day and age when you can work from home.
  1. RW says:
    Stay warm Travis!! A Happy Christmas to you and your family!!
  1. Anonymous says:
    Hope you had a merry Yule as well!
  1. Songbird: Yup. We did finally get out to the grocery this afternoon. But we're supposed to get hit with more snow over the next couple of days.
    Starr: I'll be working from home through the rest of the week. It's slushy and nasty even on our plowed streets.
    Mimi: It is getting old, but it will be wonderful seeing it on Thursday when we can just enjoy it and not think about being stuck. We've got milk, bread, fixings for our holiday meal, coffee, and two pies (instead of CAKE).
    Raven: It's definitely the safe and sensible play to stay home, and I'm glad we've both been able to do so.
    Roger: Right back atcha Sir!
    Insights: Thanks and welcome!
  1. Kanani says:
    Brrrrrrr! Beautiful, but cold! I have issues just walking into the grocery store without a jacket! I can't even begin to think of having to go outside in that!
    Stay warm! Drink cocoa (with a bit of something "extra!")
  1. j says:
    I. Am. Jealous.
    Gorgeous Travis. The snow is absolutely gorgeous!
    Christmas Blessings to you and your lady. Mr. Tucker too!
