Top 12...or is it?

Well, didn't those judges get sneaky!

Here are the Top 12 finalists for Season 8 of American Idol, in the order they were announced. The first 9 were voted through.

Alexis Grace, 21, from Memphis TN

Michael Sarver, 27, from Jasper TX

Danny Gokey, 28, from Milwaukee WI

Allison Iraheta, 16, from Los Angeles CA

Kris Allen, 23, from Conway AR

Adam Lambert, 26, from Los Angeles CA

Lil Rounds, 23, from Memphis TN

Scott MacIntyre, 23, from Scottsdale AZ

Jorge Nunez, 20, from Carolina PR

These next 3 were selected by the judges as "wild cards" to round out the Top 12.

Jasmine Murray, 16, from Starkville MS

Megan Corkrey, 22, from Sandy UT

Matt Giraud, 23, from Kalamazoo MI

And here's the sneaky part. The judges have selected a 13th finalist.

Anoop Desai, 21, from Chapel Hill NC

Don't worry...I won't be blogging American Idol. For those of you who follow the show, it seems like there's plenty of talent. My early favorites are Danny and Lil, and perhaps Adam. Those are my picks at this point for our Final 3.

But this can be a wacky show.

Hey! Were you aware that Dancing with the Stars returns on Monday????

Unfortnately, both Nancy O'Dell and Jewel have sustained serious injuries and have withdrawn from the show. Ms O'Dell injured her knee and will require surgery. Jewel sustained fractures to both tibias. Yikes!

It looks like they won't announce replacements until Monday's premier. Ms O'Dell was paired with Tony Dovolani, while Jewel was paired with Dmitry Chaplin.

I hope there are replacements. We were really looking forward to seeing Dmitry. But depending on when the injuries occurred, whoever steps in is going to be at a bit of a disadvantage.

Happy weekend gang!

I read on the web that Holly Madison is the replacement for Jewel, but haven't heard who Nancy's replacement is yet.

Can I take a moment to brag that there are 4...that's FOUR AI contestants from the Mid South area. How cool is that....Alexis, Lil are from Memphis...KEWL....Jasmine takes voices lessons here and doesn't live that far away. Plus Kris lives close enough to count.

Right now my favorites are Lil, Adam and Alexis....but I haven't really heard them all sing either.

  1. Ivanhoe says:

Oh my goodness! How could they get injured so seriously so early? I wonder who will replace them...

I don't have any faves on AI yet. I watched too little to judge :o)

  1. BeckEye says:

You do your DWTS thing and I'll stick to crappy Idol. :)

By the way, did you catch the big-time Taylor Hicks diss last night?

  1. Kanani says:

So they've gone for youth again. Sixteen year olds! Sheesh!!

  1. I've been out of the loop being laid up in bed for a week, but to respond to your comment over at Vinny's place, yes, I'm VERY happy that the Cards re-signed Kurt. I figured they would; the distance wasn't great. I think it was more a matter of principle, and it's about damn time that Bidwill, Sr. cranked open that wallet. For far too many years, he's had the vault sealed tighter than Fort Knox, hence the lack of consistent talent in the ranks.

There's some lookers on American Idol!

Oh my fractured tibia's from dancing? That's scary!

  1. I had not heard of the injuries...that really does stink for the replacements...Were these from practicing????

Since Marsha brought it up (Like I was NOT going to hehehe)

I am in for my two ladies from Memphis, TN Alexis (whose mom actually works at Servicemaster) and Lil...two form the same town...not sure that has ever happened and they both have different styles..Alexis has the Blues and Lil the R&B....

  1. Cherie says:

Oh that sneaky American Idol. Always doing something to keep the audience guessing. Stay tuned ...

And yikes on those injuries. Jewel broke both legs while training?! What ever could she have been doing? I could see it towards the end when things get more acrobatic, so to speak, but before the first show? Wow! "Break a leg" is NOT supposed to be taken literally! LOL

That's too bad and a MAJOR disadvantage to any replacements, unless they've had "understudies" in case of this kind of thing who have been training for a little while.

Good luck and good health to all of the other competitors.

  1. Linda says:

As long as the judges didn't put that annoying Tatiana into the Top 13, I'm fine with it. I rather like Adam this year but you're right, there is a lot of talent this year.

  1. Angell says:

WOW - it looks like DWTS is the newest contact sport. LOL. With all the injuries, the NHL & NFL better watch out.

I missed the wild card show. Was disappointed they didn't bring back Norman. He was entertaining.

My three faves are Alison, Adam and Danny.

Here's hoping for an entertaining season.

Much love to you and Pam.

  1. I don't watch either of those shows, but I am impressed with the in-depth coverage you have here.

This allows me to have some idea of what people are talking about around work, etc.

  1. Marsha: I read that also, but I couldn't confirm it so I didn't want to say. And you may brag away!

Ivanhoe: It really is a shame about the injuries. But ballroom dancing is pretty stressful on your body...just as much as athletics.

Beck: Sounds like a plan. But I'm not sure Idol will be crappy this time around. I did hear that dis. Simon just doesn't like Taylor. I think I've made my peace with that.

    Kanani: Youth is commercial.

Songbird: I'm sorry you've been ill. The best thing was for him to stay right there.

    Akelamalu: I know!

V: Apparently the injuries were during early training and rehearsals. Lil is a real star.

Cherie: It really is a shame.

Linda: I'm with you on the Tatiana creature.

Angell: I think it's a talented group. We'll see how they react to the bigger stage.

Southern: DWTS is one of my silly and harmless obsessions.

Wow!!! Two down before the season event begins. That's not good. I will be looking forward to a new season.
I really think there are a couple of sleepers in the AI line up. Look for Matt Giraud and Megan Corkery to do very well. I'm afraid that Lil Rounds will turnout to be another gospel glory note belter...kind of a one trick pony. For those interested in an Idol blog, I think the best site is www.idolbloglive.com.

  1. Julie says:

Regardless of who is dancing I CAN'T WAIT!

  1. Drilleraa: You might be right about Lil. But I was cruising youtube the other night and I checked out some clips of Melinda Doolittle from a couple of seasons ago. That's what I think Lil has the potential to be.

    Julie: I know!

  1. Hmmm ... I've not watched the show yet this season. I usually skip all the preliminaries and try to catch the rest as time permits ... though I usually miss many episodes. Thanks for the update ;--)
    Hugs and blessings,

  1. My favorites: Alexis and Allison for the girls. Haven't decided the guys yet.
I may blog American Idol this year myself. It's getting very interesting.

I really need to get into the dancing show too. Lately I've started watching Lie To Me and 24 again. When will I have time to blog?
