Encores and results

Are you ready? It's live from Hollywood!

Let's begin with Lil Kim and Derek. I definitely enjoyed what they did. My problem was with the judges, not with the dancers. It was a very good Jive but it was also flawed, and yet Carrie Ann and Bruno got caught up in the fun and called it perfect. Click here, and you be the judge.

With Melissa, Tony can really turn up the dial on his choreography and he has done so. I'm enjoying his work so much this season. Melissa and Tony's Rumba was outstanding. Click here.

The judges have to find something to pick at, and even on an "off" night Gilles and Cheryl are just a notch better than just about every other pair. Their Jive took utmost advantage of a bit of a wonky music selection, and Cheryl's choreography keeps getting more and more difficult each week. Click here.

Shawn and Mark danced an innocently romantic Rumba that was simply beautiful. There might have been better performances, but for me this was the dance of the night. Click here.

Here's our leader board from Monday:

28 Kim and Derek
27 Melissa and Tony
26 Gilles and Cheryl
26 Shawn and Mark
23 Chuck and Julianne
22 LT and Edyta
18 Ty and Chelsie
16 Steve and Lacey

The judges select Lil Kim and Derek as the encore selection.

The cast of the revival of West Side Story is in the ballroom, performing America. This number goes back to the roots of the original musical on Broadway, with just the girls. In the movie version, the boys were added to give the song a different flavor. These gals were terrific, but give me Rita and George any day!

Let's get some results, shall we?

First to be safe are Kim and Derek, with LT and Edyta.

Rascal Flatts performs Here Comes Goodbye, accompanied by Julianne and Tony in a beautiful trick fest of a dance. Tony tossed Julianne around like she was nothing. That was incredible.

So next week, the celebrities will take the lead in designing costumes for the pairs. LT says that Edyta is allergic to clothes...and I'm ok with that. HA!

Two more pairs are safe...Shawn and Mark are safe, as are Melissa and Tony.

Carmen Electra is featured in the Macy's Stars of Dance segment. The burlesque style number was choreographed by Lindsley Allen, an original member of the Pussycat Dolls.

Rascal Flatts returns to perform Revolution by The Beatles.

Who else is safe? Gilles and Cheryl, and that means all of our favorites are through.

So now the last two couples advancing to next week are Chuck and Julianne, with Ty and Chelsie. That means that Steve and Lacey are out.

Next week our 7 remaining couples dance an individual routine plus a group dance inspired by the decade of the 1960s.

And I just have a thought to impart about American Idol. Last week they went 7 minutes over, running into DWTS results and any other program that airs at 2100 on Tuesday nights.

So this week they made the new rule that the judges would critique each performance only in pairs, rather than having all 4 judges speak about the singers.

Uhm...hello? I've got news for you. They still went over and it's not because of 4 judges critiquing each singer. It's because of all the juvenile banter they do that has nothing whatsoever to do with the person standing on the stage.

And that is why I'm not enjoying Idol very much this season. I like several of the singers, but the judges are turning me off more and more every week. FOX may think that crap is good tv. For me, it's just noise.

    Strangely, I watched Dancing with the Stars last night for the first time ever.

  1. Akelamalu says:

    Lil Kim must have had tit tape on to stay in that top! :0

  1. DrillerAA says:

    Finally, Steve-O exits the dance floor. that should have happened a couple of weeks ago. If cowboy Ty doesn't step up his game, he could be the next one leaving the corral.
    And, I could not agree more with you about American Idol. I have gotten to the point that I dread the judges comments almost as much as the contestants do.

  1. Anndi says:

    I didn't watch much last night. But I did see LT's comment about clothes. As long as he doesn't mess with her shoes, I'll be ok.

    I'm going to miss Steve-O, he turned out to be quite charming.

    As for Idol? I'm not so sure adding a fourth judge is that great.

  1. Marsha says:

    Well at last, SteveO is gone! I was nervous for Ty there for a while, but he's safe this week.

    Good comment about AI! Perhaps if they would tell Paula to shut up and keep her comments shorter this tweaking would not have been necessary. Her and Simon's antics are getting to be way too much! And quite honestly, I MUTE PAULA! and I'll take Kara over her any time.

  1. I loved the dance with Tony & Julianne...OH MY was that incredible?!?!

    Bye Bye Steve O...you showed you do not have to be a Jacka** all the time and that there is a soft side to you...but it was time to go.

    AI..oh what to say about that show...want to not go over, cut out some commercials..2 minutes of commercials after every song? Also separate Simon and Pawler, I am sick of their crazy antics...

  1. Ivanhoe says:

    Good decision; it was time to go for Steve :o)

  1. TopChamp says:

    OK - I have started watching your dancing show. It's cool but not knowing the celebs does make a difference as you're less forgiving. When you get towards the end it'll get really good for me.

    AI - rubbish. They're all pretty bad.

    Travis: HAPPY BIRTHDAY (belatedly) TO YOU, SQUASHED TOMATOES AND STEW, YOU LOOK LIKE A HAIRY MONKEY... AND SMELL LIKE ONE TOO X

    Sorry I missed it.

  1. Tuesday is turning into a very crowded TV night. There are seven days in the week and they put most of the good stuff on Tuesday. It's a conspiracy. Thanks for keeping me in the know when I miss the show.

    What they need to do is make American Idol longer. Like 1 1/2 hours. It goes into Fringe and I don't get to see the end of that. Thank goodness for DVR's as I can tape everything but they stop when they are suppose to. The problem with American Idol is I think everyone want's to hear all the judges responses to the singing. Not just two. And I for one enjoy the banter between the judges...it's what makes it American Idol. But they have to do something about going over their time slot. Oh I know. Just end it right where it is when the time comes. Maybe that will get enough viewers to bitch that they dont' get to see all of American Idol. Then They would know what it's like to not see the end of Fringe.

  1. it was not a surprise steve-o had to go-o.

    I'm not idoling...but I think you knew that...

  1. Nick: I hope you enjoyed it!

    Akelamalu: I wouldn't know about that, but me likey the look!

    Drilleraa: Both Ty and LT have gotten styles that didn't suit them as well, and they let that get in their heads.

    Ann: I agree about Steve-O. Too bad he wasn't much of a dancer.

    Marsha: I'd be ok with the judges if they would just get to the point with their comments. It doesn't have to be profound, just constructively critical...and quick.

    V: I couldn't believe how physical and dramatic that dance was for T&J.

    Ivanhoe: Indeed it was.

    TC: See I don't mind not being as familiar with the celebrities because my expectations are not as high as they would be with people I know. And thanks for the birthday wishes!

    Jamie: My tough day has been Monday for a couple of years now.

    Thom: The problem I have with the AI judges is that their banter isn't witty...it's witless. But that's just one man's opinion. I've never watched AI to listen to the judges or to see people embarrass themselves. I watch it to hear the singers.

    Katherine: I suspected you would not be Idoling. Sometimes I wish I wasn't.

  1. j says:

    So do you think the addition of a judge hurt them timewise? Seems like if you add another person prattling on it would be an issue.

    Another season of 'blogging' and I am out of the DWTS/AI loop. I'm just so uncool.

  1. Hi! Thanks for leaving me such a great comment!!! Glad you remembered the sign.
    We've finally gotten the TV thing straightened out and the picture is much clearer than satellite. I like to watch Criminal Minds so will miss Idol. I think I've seen all the Discovery, A&E, and Animal Planet shows ever made. Good for a change...
    ~~~Blessings~~~
  1. I am bummed to lose Lacey cause she is just so much fun to watch it is infectious.
  1. Julie says:
    It was a great show...and you know I agree wholeheartedly with Vinny! Yeowza!
  1. Barb says:
    I love AI, but this year there are only 2 or 3 that I think are any good. Having said that... I actually watch very little TV, but what I do watch I watch through the magic of 15 minute delay on my DVR. I just zap through all the "witty banter" and commercials and end up at the end at about the same time the show actually ends.
    I heart my DVR.
