Mo's Manic Monday - Plant

Welcome to another Manic Monday with Morgen. Don't forget to cruise by MM HQ at the Manic Monday blog. Today's theme is Plant.

Today, for lack of a better thought, I give you the Washington State flower. And since I don't know anything about plants or flowers, I'll refer you to Henning's Rhododendron and Azalea Pages.



All I can tell you from first hand experience is that this is a truly extraordinary flower. When I first visited Washington in May 2004, I was struck by how large and vibrant these flowers were.





They took out quite a few of the rhodie bushes around my place, preparing for some heavy construction in our complex. But there are still a few left and I can't wait until they start blooming. The colors range from white to pink to red to purple.

The quest for 16 wins got off to a good start for my Lakers yesterday as they beat Utah 113-100, behind 24 points from Kobe Bryant. Trevor Ariza added 21 points and Pau Gasol had 20. The Lakers shot 55% from the floor, including 46% from the 3 point line.

Game 2 is on Tuesday from Staples Center in LA. The series shifts to Utah on Thursday.

    Wonderful pictures Trav. I really enjoyed them. And they are beautiful. My brother and sister-in-law live in Seattle. The work for King5...small world. My Manic Monday will be up in about hour and half...hell being here in Hawaii and having to wait for the automatic post. Congrats on your Lakers!!! Since I lived in Houston at one time I tend to like the Rockets...Not that I follow the game all that close. Have a great Monday

    I love Rhododendrons and Azaleas, I have just never had much luck growing them. The vibrant reds and whites are my favorites.

    I love that kind of azaleas! They can be almost "other-worldly" in their intensity. :)

    I have a pale pink rhodedendron bush in my garden and a fuchsia pink azalea :)

    I have two azaleas in my backyard and I just bought and planted a third one in between the two old ones this weekend. Mine are hot pink, purple and red. I cannot wait for them to bloom :o)

    Very showy for a state flower. The states I live in have humble flowers in comparison. Actually, I don't remember Wisconsin's state flower so that one doesn't count.

    Rhododendrons and azaleas are beautiful. I am surprised to see them in such bloom that far north right now.

    I was in Tennessee a week ago, and they had not started blooming there at all.

    Azaleas are so gorgeous. We have many down here, almost all light purplish to pink

    Beautiful flowers - there is just something about an azalea bush when it's in full-bloom that cannot be beat!

    I am like you, I have little floral knowledge, but Rhododendrons and azaleas are beautiful flowering bushes fer sure

    Pretty! Idaho's state flower is the Syringa. They smell amazing!

    Thom: It looks like the Rockets might have a shot to make it out of the first round this time. And King5 is my news station of choice for local news.

    Drilleraa: I let others grow...I just admire.

    Barb: But they are beautiful while they do last.

    Cherie: Indeed...the colors can be so striking.

    Mike: Can't take credit for the photos, although maybe later this spring I'll get some when they bloom here.

    V: Apparently the bushes are quite hearty as well since they made it through the snowy winter.

    Clancy: I don't know Syringa, but that's not surprising since I don't know much about flowers.

    I love azaleas. I have actually tried to care for them but alas they always die. Thank goodness my black thumb doesn't carry over to my children! *LOL* Beautiful photos.

    When I had a house I planted some of these beauties in the yard. I loved them. I always had the pink b/c they added a punch of color to the green surroundings of my yard.

    Beautiful! I bought some flowers to plant yesterday. But they look nothing like yours!

    We do have some wonderful Rhododendrons here. I love the ones that are allowed to grow into trees. They are overwhelming to stand under.

    azaleas and rhododendrons are some of my favorite flowering shurbs. We had them at our house growing up. Brings back lots of memories!

    lovely! We have rhododendron problems here - they're going nuts in our woods killing the native species. They have expeditions where you can go and take all your frustrations out on the rhody's.

    Beautiful flowers. I love the rhodies but have never had much luck with them here.
