We were not as involved in American Idol this season. We did watch most of the performance shows, but we were not compelled to vote.

So who joined the list of winners?

Season 1, Kelly Clarkson
Season 2, Reuben Studdard
Season 3, Fantasia Barrino
Season 4, Carrie Underwood
Season 5, Taylor Hicks
Season 6, Jordin Sparks
Season 7, David Cook

And for Season 8, your 2009 American Idol is...

Kris Allen!

Well done young man!

Had enough dancing yet? Not me!

Tune in tomorrow night for the Season 5 premier of So You Think You Can Dance. And yes I will be posting recaps...just not until we get to the Top 20.

Well this was a shocker beyond belief. He's going to be as boring as Reuben, Fantasia and Taylor. Adam, I believe, in Paula's words will be iconic. He's already leaps and bounds ahead of Kris. But America voted and we just have to accept it. So Congrats Kris. Was a great season. Talk to you about SYTYCD...first time watching...i'm intrigued :) Aloha

I was sure Adam would win, but it's Kris' music I'll be buying and listening to.

Adam is phenominal and will be huge, but I suspect his genre is not to my personal taste. Time will tell.

Yours is the first Idol post that I have read today. I imagine there will be a fair amount of murmuring over the results in Blogland. But past winners and runners-up have shown that the title doesn't mean absolute success - it's up to the individual. Both men are very talented and have the potential to make it big.

  1. Rut ro.... Taylor boring? I think not Thom.

Congrats to Kris...I think America got it correctly.

  1. Liz Hill says:

Taylor is not boring if you like real music.

Adam is a niche talent--he's sufficiently out there to be able to go forward with a fantastic career. Kris will be able to handle the first horrific year with Nineteen and then settle into a pretty cool career in music.

Kris is unfortunate in that he has to sing that HORRIBLE song for the rest of this year at least.

I like seeing an actual singer/songwriter who can play more than one instrument win. And I was more than pleased with last night's result.

Taylor Hicks isn't boring... and he can whip a crown into a frenzy, as I'm sure Kris will as well.

Kris walks in the footsteps of people like James Taylor, Dave Matthews... and we saw last night he could grab on to that urban country market Keith Urban and Brad Paisley rule.

Adam is a talented vocalist (when he doesn't spend too much time in his upper range) but as Turnbaby said, he has a certain niche. I don't think we've seen the "real" Adam yet and it should be interesting.

Poor Kris... mountains and hurricanes... that's what it's like with Nineteen.

  1. Anndi says:

Oh... and um, SYTYCD SYTYCD SYTYCD!!!

    WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

  1. BeckEye says:

Oh-oh, the Soul Patrol is on the rampage. :)

I love Adam. He makes me wish I were a gay man. Maybe he'll record an album with Queen. Or maybe he'll just have a happy life singing songs that AREN'T written by Kara DioHacky. I'm kind of glad he didn't win.

  1. Marsha says:

I've downloaded Danny and Adam, but not Kris......and I won't be doing that. I suspect that he is likely to go by the way of Rueben and one or two others....talented but no one buys.

    Just sayin'...........

  1. More dancing of a different type tonight. New York City Ballet Live From Lincoln Center with "Romeo and Juliet" on Channel 9 (PBS)

  1. Akelamalu says:

I've not heard him but he's certainly handsome! :0

  1. I hear it was a big surprise!

  1. I, too, heard it was a huge surprise. Oh well - things happen!

  1. DrillerAA says:

Since I live in Northwest Arkansas, I was obligated to root for the homeboy. However, I do believe that both of these guys will have very successful careers in the entertainment industry.

Now, it's almost time for more dancing! WooooHooo, SYTYCD is just around the corner.

  1. I really didn't pay much attention to the show this year so I wasn't that invested. I was glad that it was Kris, if for no other reason than the judges have been declaring it Adam pretty much all season long. Whenever I would watch they would all basically say the others could stop anyday, Adam was going to win.

And it really doesn't matter who wins. Adam, Danny and Kris all have recording contracts. Now comes the time to show what they have when they put out their album.

  1. Thom: SYTYCD does a bit of the bad auditions, but not nearly as much as AI. They focus much more on talent. And as for the three Idols you mentioned, I wouldn't call any of them boring. Reuben and Fantasia aren't my style, but this is a Soul Patrol place and I'm a Soul Patroller. Taylor is my guy. But I understand that he's not for everyone, so it's cool.

Barb: And that's the bottom line. We all like who we like.

Jennifer: I'm avoiding as much of the post-Idol commentary. But you're right...it's now up to each individual.

V: And we got to see Taylor in Grease for Pam's birthday! He was outstanding!

Turn: We'll agree to disagree about Adam. I don't think he needed to win to do well. We do agree about that dreadful song though!

Ann: Adam didn't demonstrate it on the show, but word is that he's a songwriter as well. We shall see. I like Kris and expect he'll do well. And a big loud woooo for SYTYCD!

Beck: No rampaging Soul Patrol here. Just a difference of opinion. I've seen the Queen rumors. That could be very cool.

    NNG: Yes Ma'am!

Marsha: I did the same. But Kris could surprise. And it's also about longevity. Get some solid sales and make another CD, rinse and repeat.

Jamie: Now that would be worth missing the premier of SYTYCD. Wait...did I just say that???

Akelamalu: Some have said so. He can sing pretty well too!

Charles: It was a bit of a surprise I think.

Songbird: It does, but I think it ended well for all concerned.

Drilleraa: I agree. And let's DANCE!

    John: Well said.

  1. Linda says:

Amanda and I had a discussion about the results last night (she doesn't watch AI anymore but I was an Adam-fan from the very beginning) and I told her that the results didn't surprise me in the least as American, for as liberated an open-minded as we like to claim we are, always goes with the 'safe' choice and that's what Kris was here - your basic white bread, homegrown, regular guy.

Now don't get me wrong, I like Kris and if anyone was going to beat Adam I'm glad it was him but just once I would have liked to see America go for someone a little more flamboyant, a little more different, a little more glam.

Fortunately, history has shown that you don't have to win to make it big with this show (Ruben who??) and no doubt we'll be hearing a lot more from Adam. The guy has talent and a phenomenal range and he will go far.

As for Kris, maybe he and David Cook can do a duet ... same mold, same style, same ... well, you get the idea!

  1. Linda: It really does come down to taste. But if the rumors are true about the vote totals out of Arkansas, this result is skewed due to clever use of technology.

  1. Julie says:

    **gasps**

    Taylor.
    Boring?

Bwhahahahahahahahaha! Oh sorry.....am I over board here?

    **waves at Thom**

I guess you can't diss a performer who created such wonderful friendships!
