Chuck Daly, hall of fame coach basketball coach, died today of pancreatic cancer. He was 78.

Coach Daly won back to back NBA championships in 1989 and 1990 as coach of the Detroit Pistons during the bad boy era. He coached the Dream Team to the gold medal in 1992, the first time NBA pros were allowed to compete in the Olympic games.

Coach Daly epitomized the phrase championship intensity with championship poise. He understood how to earn the respect of players and manage personalities.

I don't know who he is but it's always sad when someone loses their battle with disease. :(

  1. Charles Barkley had a great quote when he said he always wondered how such a good man could coach the "bad boys."

Coach Daly was an amazing coach.

  1. "Earned the respect of players and managed personalities" - if this wasn't so rare, one would think that's just coaching. Far, far from it.

    Thanks for the wonderful tribute.

Good man, excellent coach. I think the Pistons over-achieved under his leadership. Other teams had better individual athletes but the
    "Bad Boys" got the rings.

  1. It seems like there's been a boatload of sports figures passing a way lately. Did you hear about Wayman Tisdale? So sad.

  1. Chuck Daly was/is hall of fame material, no doubt; he will be missed
