Friday Feets - Trav's Walk-about Adventures

Welcome to Chapter 6 of my feature. I'm on a quest to fight the crippling effects of chronic pain from an old knee injury by getting outside as much as I can, either to walk or to go on day trips. You can trace my journey by clicking here.

We haven't been able to get out much over the last couple of weeks. It's been a bit too warm for me to walk during lunch, and we took last weekend just to kick back and recharge the batteries.

But over Memorial Day weekend we did manage a bit of a drive up to Mt Ranier. The passes weren't open yet, so we drove as far as we could and then enjoyed a few sites. It was odd to see campers on the side of the road. I guess if camping during Memorial Day weekend is your thing, then you're gonna put your tent wherever you can.

Here's just a brief taste of what we saw.

That's just a little taste on the way to Mt Ranier. We're planning to take the loop around the mountain next month, so I'll have some more shots for you.

Just awesome Trav. Stunning beauty. That knee must be a pain to have to deal with but at least you you are fighting it. Good job. I so look forward to your walks and pictures. Thanks for sharing :)

  1. The pictures of your walk-abouts are fantastic!

Love that last shot! So pristine and beautiful!

  1. Trav, how far to get there? It must be wonderful to be in the city, yet so close to the openness of the mountains. I have to start taking advantage of what is offered here.

As always, I love your scenic tours. Those pictures are really pretty -especially liked the ones with the water. Guess I have a thing (sort of) for the beauty in mountain streams.

That looks so spring-y. Lots of green everywhere. Cannot wait for your next trip to the mountain :o)
    Have a great weekend!

  1. Definitely a little slice of heaven for a hike.

  1. your pics remind me of what i love about the west coast, trav... i lived up north of you, in and around the vancouver, bc, area... but i was there last some 12 years ago :(

hope you're able to work that knee regularly, even if indoors....

Awesome scenery Trav! You're so lucky living close to somewhere that beautiful. :)

  1. Thanks Travis~that was terrific! Cant wait for round 2!

  1. Thom: I'm enjoying being out and about too.

    Terra: Thanks!

Barb: It smelled really good too.

V: It's about an hour or so south, and then driving the loop around the mountain is usually about 3 hours if you go straight through without stopping.

Jeni: I suspect that those streams are going to fill up some more as the spring and summer snow melts continue. Although the snow on Rainier doesn't melt completely.

Ivanhoe: I should probably get some pictures of the actual mountain! He's just so hard to see sometimes because of cloud cover.

    Charles: Indeed.

Laughingwolf: I have yet to get up into that area, but I've heard Whistler is equally beautiful.

Akelamalu: I know! And there's still so much I haven't seen.

NNG: I think I should be able to get some really good shots when we go again next month.

Sorry I've not been by much this week; way too much going on between Jamie coming home (and taking over my laptop) and doing some overtime at work. I could use a break in a beautiful place like you have in your pictures here! Will look forward to the pictures when you head up to Rainier again.

    Have a great week Travis!

  1. you do live in a beautiful area...I especially like the second one...kinda layers...water, riverbed, and the tree lines...just a great shot!

I'll look forward to seeing the others when you two do the loop...

    Wow!
It's hard to pick a favorite.
I love the green trees and the water and the blue sky.
    Peaceful and beautiful.

Watch those rocks my dear! I miss being able to prowl around river beds right now... Too uneven a footing....maybe this time next year... weeeeeee.

Thanks for taking us along kiddo

  1. Lovely, lovely, lovely. I've taken that loop road before; I can't wait to see your photos. We really need to get up there again.
