Conviction of the Heart (1991)
written by Kenny Loggins and Guy Thomas

Where are the dreams that we once had?
This is the time to bring them back.
What were the promises caught on the tips of our tongues?
Do we forget or forgive?
There's a whole other life waiting to be lived when...
One day we're brave enough
To talk with Conviction of the Heart.
And down your streets I've walked alone,
As if my feet were not my own
Such is the path I chose, doors I have opened and closed
I'm tired of living this life,
Fooling myself, believing we're right, when...
I've never given love
With any Conviction of the Heart
One with the earth, with the sky
One with everything in life
I believe we'll survive
If we only try...
How long must we all wait to change
This world bound in chains that we live in
To know what it is to forgive,
And be forgiven?
It's been too many years of taking now.
Isn't it time to stop somehow?
Air that's too angry to breathe, water our children can't drink
You've heard it hundreds of times
You say your aware, believe, and you care, but...
Do you care enough
Where's your conviction of the Heart?

One with the earth, with the sky,one with everything in life.
I believe it will start with conviction of the heart.
With the earth, with the sky,one with everything in life.
I believe it will start with conviction of the heart.
One earth, one sky, only one world, only one chance for one life.
When will we live?
One child,one dream,only one life.
You've but one chance for one life.
When will we live?
Only one earth, and only one sky,and only one world.
We've only got one chance to live in one life.
I believe, it's only gonna start when we begin with some conviction of the heart.

With all due respect, tell it to the rest of the world. What is China doing? Nothing! What is the mid-east doing? Nothing! We can win this war alone.

I had the privilege of seeing Kenny Loggins perform in the 1980s. he's such a wonderful musician.

  1. Driller: Due respect in return, but I don't know anyone in China or the Middle East and I don't have a vote there. So I write posts on my blog and I write to my elected representatives and I work in my community to clean up our own messes.

Lois: I've never seen him live, but I've always enjoyed his music. I heard this song on my commute home yesterday and it seemed appropriate for a post during Peace Globe Promotion week.

  1. Too swamped right now to do a peace globe but I am following what is going on.

  1. These lines are great:

'Air that's too angry to breathe, water our children can't drink
You've heard it hundreds of times
You say your aware, believe, and you care, but...
    Do you care enough
Where's your conviction of the Heart?'

Thanks for posting this. I hadn't realized it was Peace Globe promotion week. I'll be taking part on Nov. 5th. Really looking forward to it. I found it so moving the last two years.

  1. I have been remiss in mentioning peace globes each and every day.

I read the lyrics twice...I knew the song and always enjoyed it but heard it differently today.

Begin to heal at home - we have put aside so many other problems the last 10 years and focused outside.

We can not forget the outside, but there are times we need to pull inward for our own health.

  1. I agree with Vinny. I see Driller's point as well. We can only do our part and do the best we can. I think that's what we're trying to do here. It does begin with awareness....and then it expands from there.

Thank you for putting peace globes front and center this week.

I love that song! It was years before I knew what it mean, though.

  1. Ooo I gotta get my peace globe going!

It is a wonderful song and particularly appropriate today.

  1. Outstanding. I don't know that there is a more appropriate song for the Peace Globe idea than that.

    Thanks, Travis.

Guess what? I've learned to make my own Peace Globe :)

I am looking forward to the Blogblast in November. I feel blessed to be a part of it!

pretty words - I'm rubbish at actually listening to the words in songs. I'm a music person first - you're a words person first. I like that I know you.

  1. I must admit, I've always liked Kenny Loggins (& even have his "greatest hits" now. Don't tell Charles...)

  1. Julie says:

I always loved this song, Travis...but I didn't understand it. Thanks so much for putting up the lyrics.

  1. Charles: I'm here to help.

Julia: I've met so many wonderful blogging pals through the movement, and reinforced some friendships too.

V: If we are healthy here at home, then it becomes easier to spread that health abroad, when our help is requested.

Mimi: I think there can be so much frustration when we watch events unfold. We can feel so powerless. But if we continue to work in the spaces nearest to us, I truly believe that we can make real change happen.

Dana: I think sometimes it can have several meanings, depending on when you listen.

    Starr: Do it!

Southern: It popped up on my Ipod during my commute that day, and it was just so appropriate.

Jennifer: YAY! I can't wait to see what you made.

TC: I'm pleased to know you as well.

    Lana: Oooooo...I'm telling!

Julie: Sometimes a song speaks for itself.

  1. Lois: I've been smiling all week!

Akelamalu: It's the fall season of TV!

Cherie: I like to be thorough.

V: Cheryl has had plenty of success. And I learned a long time ago that this show is nearly impossible to predict.

    Jamie: Set aside politics!

    Julie: It's a tingly moment.

Jennifer: I'm really looking forward to this season. And Pam loves Donny.

    Jaye: So much dancing!

    Starr: I know!

    Southern: Indeed...LEGSES!

Grandy: I'm excited by this group.
