Finale Week!

Before I continue, I just wanted to say that it's very weird not to have a Manic Monday post today. However, my blog pal Jamie at Duward Discussion is starting a new Monday feature called Take This Tune. Jamie will post a video every Friday, with the lyrics, and participants use the song title or any part of the lyric for a story. I missed the prompt for this week, but I'm going to try and play this one.

Now, it's Finale Week for So You Think You Can Dance! Woooooooooo!!!

It's no secret that my favorite dancer this season has been Evan. I've explained why I like him. It's because his dancing reminds me of Hollywood musicals from the classic era of the 1940s - 1960s.

But even if I didn't explain why he's my favorite, what difference does it make? He's my favorite because he is. That's not wrong. There is no right or wrong. There is only favorite.

Oh...I've been reading some opinions from disappointed viewers. None of them are reading here, I'm sure, but I'm going to say this anyway because I can. Nobody is voted off this show. Contestants are voted through to the next round.

See, you can only vote for your favorite to advance. You can't vote for anyone else to go home. So the complaints I've been seeing are a bit silly.

The statements that Evan isn't as good a dancer as the other Brandon or Ade, or any of the other eliminated guys, are kind of silly too. Whether that is true or not is irrelevant for purpose of So You Think You Can Dance, because SYTYCD is about America's Favorite dancer.

Few of us who watch the show do so with an expert's eye. We just know what we like. I like Evan.

If you like Evan or Brandon or Kayla or Jeanine, I think you're going to enjoy the finale on Wednesday. I think the best choreographers will bring excellent routines. And I think the dancers will step up and put on a great show.

And if you think the show has "lost credibility" or that "America is getting it wrong"...well...I can't help you.

    Mornin' sweetie!

I love that picture of Evan and I agree with your summation too! I mean as far as the voting is handled. You and I have differed on our fav and that's okay.

    Dance on!

I was saying this over at Thom's ... I don't think that Favorite Dancer & Best Dancer have to be mutually exclusive. The best dancing involves musical interpretation and connecting with audience. That's one of the reason that I was never impressed with Ade's solos. Physically impressive, but it always seemed that his musical interpretation was off. Whereas, this has been one of Evan's greatest strengths.

I would say that if Evan is your favorite dancer, it's because he is the best, in your eyes. Like Julie, I have a different fav, but I still think that Evan is marvelous.

Good luck to all the dancers!

This is actually the very first season of the show that I've watched all the way through and I think a lot of that has to do with the fact that, like yourself, I like Evan and I like seeing what he can do every week. His style of dance seems to be wanting to go the way of the dodo and it's just very refreshing for me to see what he comes up with in the sea of contemporary and hip-hop that seems to be so much more prevalent than the styles of Broadway or old Hollywood.

I'm looking forward to Wednesday's finale and I am sure it will be a great show regardless of who ends up being America's "favorite" dancer though maybe not necessarily the best!

I don't get to watch it but I hope your man wins - if you like him he must be good. :)

  1. Julie: Dance on indeed!

    Cherie: Good point.

Linda: I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Akelamalu: I've got my dialing fingers ready!

  1. The idea that America has lost credibility by shining a spotlight on a style of dance that is as American as Apple Pie makes me giggle =)

I am fine with any of them winning. I have to say I love Jeanine as much as I love Evan. And Kayla's lines are amazing. The thing with Kayla is I have never really liked her solo's. I think she is a better dance than choreographer. Brandon is amazing but I feel like I have been there and done that.

Can't wait, at this point they are all winners!

I'm slipping over to Jamie's now to check out her new blog-along. Thanks for the info!

(in other words, I haven't been watching this season either)

I've read a lot of nasty things about Evan as well.

    But I'm charmed.
They bring different things to the stage and it's all exciting.
I like all of them, and know that no matter the results --all will have good careers doing what they love!
    You can't beat that!

It was odd not to have Manic Monday... maybe I'll give the new meme a shot.

  1. Howdy! I haven't been watching the good stuff; instead I inhale the dust of Big Brother. Yuck. I'm addicted to slop. I guess I could be considered a low-brow?
Glad you're enjoying the world and the good things in it!
    ~~~Blessings~~~
