Congratulations to Ichiro Suzuki of the Seattle Mariners, who lined the second pitch he saw today into the right field corner for a double and hit #2,000 for his major league career.

He needs just 5 more hits now to get to 200 hits for 2009, which will be his 9th season in a row with more than 200 hits. That will be a major league record.

Only Pete Rose has more 200 heat seasons, with 10, although these were not consecutive.

Well done Ichiro!

I love hearing about baseball players who are edging up on breaking yet another record. Hope he makes it!

I tried understanding baseball once, but couldn't figure out why they slid around on the ice so much when all they had to do was knock the ten pins over with those rackets. If they could do it while jumping over the net at the same time (also called a "touchdown"), they were allowed to take a "time out" to get all that sand out of their shorts.
It never really did make sense.

  1. Thom: It's possible.

Jeni: I had barely sat down to enjoy the beginning of the game and he was standing on second base with 2000 hits.

    Janna: Now that was funny!
