#20 BYU picked off #3 Oklahoma. The Sooners lost Heisman Trophy winning QB Junior Sam Bradford in the first half to a shoulder injury. That's unfortunate, but OU didn't look right offensively even when he was in the game. The offensive line had major trouble protecting the pocket.

Senior QB Max Hall threw 2 interceptions, but other than that he played an outstanding game for BYU as he went 26 of 38 for 329 yards and 2 TDs. He led the game winning drive in the last five minutes of the game, and the defense held on to get the win 14-13. Hall wasn't even on my list of QBs to watch!

Best wishes to Sam Bradford that the injury isn't serious. Initial reports are a sprained shoulder and that he'll miss about 2 weeks.

Oklahoma, who will surely drop in the rankings, hosts Idaho State next week, while BYU should climb in the polls and travels to Tulane.

GO IRISH!!!

Notre Dame beat Nevada today, 35-0. Junior QB Jimmy Clausen was an efficient 15 of 18 for 315 yards and 4 TDs. His big target was Sophomore WR Michael Floyd, who caught 4 balls for 189 yards and 3 TDs. Junior RB Armando Allen rushed for 72 yards on 15 carries.

The defense picked off 2 passes and held Nevada to only 154 yards passing. The Irish did give up 114 yards rushing to Junior RB Vai Taua, so that could be a concern.

But it's a good start to a promising season. The Irish travel to Michigan next week.

Well, they didn't pull off the upset but dang those Huskies played hard and gave LSU fits. New coach Steve Sarkisian has got Washington playing with enthusiasm and excitement. The score was only 17-13 in LSU's favor at the half. But for a couple of turnovers by UW, the Huskies might have had the lead. Instead, LSU won 31-23 with UW getting a late score at the end of the game.

Junior QB Jake Locker played very well, throwing for 320 yards and 2 TDs on 24 of 45. He did throw the one pick. The Huskies ran for a combined 158 yards. In fact, UW outgained LSU 478 yards to 321. But the Tigers were able to score when they had to, which would be why LSU is ranked #11 and UW hasn't won a game in it's last 15 tries.

But, the Huskies do have talent and Coach Sarkisian appears to have the players buy in. Washington hosts Idaho next week, while LSU hosts Vanderbilt.

Senior QB Greg Paulus had a modest first game of his one year Syracuse career. He only made one major mistake. Regrettably it was throwing an interception in the end zone in overtime. Minnesota was then able to kick a winning field goal to beat the Orange 23-20.

I'm not a big fan of Syracuse, so the loss isn't a big deal to me. But I'll keep an eye on Paulus and see how he bounces back.

Syracuse has a tough one next week as they visit #9 Penn State.

My pal Dixie got a new coach for her beloved Tennessee. Lane Kiffin led the Vols to a 63-7 win over Western Kentucky behind a pair of hundred yard rushers. Senior RB Montario Hardesty and Freshman Bryce Brown ran for 160 and 104 yards, respectively. Senior QB Jonathan Crompton added a solid 277 yards and 5 TDs on 21 of 28 passing.

Tennessee hosts UCLA next week.

My pal Turn is looking for an epic sports year with a big name coach for her Kentucky basketball team. But before we can get to that madness, the football Wildcats got of to a stellar start with a 42-0 win over Miami (OH) behind a strong defense that gave up less than 200 yards of offense and picked off 2 passes. Senior CB Trevard Lindley ran one of those interceptions back for a TD.

Junior QB Mike Harline was a respectable 18 of 27 for 222 yards and 2 TDs. UK didn't have a 100 yard rusher, but combined the Wildcats rushed for 245 yards and 3 TDs.

Kentucky hosts in state rival Louisville in two weeks.

I've got some other pals following some other teams too. I think most of them are covered in the Top 25 results.
