We're counting down the days to 5 November 2009 with Peace Quotes.

Pam is a bit grumpy, but not really surprised that her Seahawks got blitzed by Indianapolis today. Seattle has been plagued by injuries, but even at full strength it really isn't an elite team. The Seahawks have benefited from the NFC West being such a bad division over the last several years.

Still, I really sympathize with her suffering through getting beat so badly. It's just no fun.

Peyton Manning had an outstanding game, throwing for more than 300 yards for the 4th game in a row. As great as Manning has been, this is the first time he's done that in his career. He was 31 of 41 for 353 yards and 2 TDs. He did throw an interception as well. Seattle's defense just wasn't up to the task of stopping the Colts' passing game.

Seattle (1-3) hosts Jacksonville (2-2) next week, while Indianapolis (4-0) is at Tennessee (0-4).

So...my Raiders suck. And the problem is at QB.

I'm sorry. I like to give a young QB a chance. But Je Marcus Russell has completed 39.8% of his passes this season. He has thrown 4 picks against only 1 TD. He's got a total of 506 yards. He's averaging less than 5 yards per completion. His rating is 42.4, which is dead last in the league.

By contrast, Peyton Manning is throwing for 334 yards per game while completing nearly 71% of his passes!

So Pam and I are bot a little grumpy about our teams. But at least Seneca Wallace rallied the Seahawks a bit late against Indy. And Seattle was able to score touchdowns.

My Raiders? Not so much. I can't even find any decent stats. Russell was awful. We couldn't run the football. We fumbled 3 times. We gave up a TD on a kick return. Chris Johnson did get an interception, so that's a good thing. But we didn't do anything with it.

Oakland (1-3) takes its suckiness on the road to play the Giants (4-0) next week.

The 49ers may not be an elite team, but at least they don't suck. SF demolished to Rams, who may actually suck worse than my Raiders do.

Shaun Hill continued to be adequate, throwing for 152 yards and 2 TDs on 14 of 24. Most importantly, he didn't turn the ball over. Glen Coffee rushed for 74 yards on 24 carries...not great but good enough to maintain some balance on offense.

The 49ers defense is making it possible for the offense to be adequate rather than spectacular. SF forced 3 turnovers on an interception and 2 fumbles, cashing in all three for TDs. That's how you dominate an inferior team. And that's how you take advantage of a very weak NFC West. SF is 3-1, 3-0 in the division to start the season.

We'll see if the 49ers can win outside of that weak NFC West. They host Atlanta (2-1) next week.

I can report that I bounced back after a lousy couple of weeks with my picks. I was 10-2 leading up to the Sunday night game. So far for the year I'm 40-20 for 67%.

  1. The Saints looked pretty good against the Jets although the Jets gave 'em a struggle early.

I'm trying to hold my excitement in check, because as you pointed out, the three wins the niners have so far are in the flabby NFC West. Still, three W's is something I'll gladly take.

Like Charles, I enjoyed watching the Saints win. Since we are about two hours from New Orleans, we've decided to step out of college football box and pull for that particular pro team. So far they are undefeated!!

    Just like my Tide :)

I've watched Glen Coffee play a bunch (former University of Alabama player). He really was good in college and I hope he will show what he's made of soon.

I'm looking forward to watching the Vikings vs Packers. That will be interesting.

    Have a great week Travis.

So sorry about your Raiders. Having been a Saints fan for as long as I can remember, I understand how you feel @ your teams poor performance(as per your stats). Saints fans are aquainted with grief, but things are looking up this year!Yey!

I so enjoy your Sunday Sports Wrap!

  1. Charles: The Saints are starting to make a believer out of me. The offense is good, and the defense is adequate.

Jeff: 9-7 is likely going to be good enough, and I think SF can get that. Maybe even 10-6. We'll see.

Jennifer: You're having a good football season so far!

Debra: I'm glad you enjoy! And Saints fans are definitely long suffering. Y'all deserve some sustained success.
