It's what we like

My Lady and I like to go to the grocery store.

Wait...let me rephrase.

My Lady and I enjoy doing the grocery shopping together.

Yeah...that's more what I meant.

We don't like the grocery store at all. So many people are rude. So many people don't control their kids. Grocery store parking lots are dangerous. The clerks rarely distribute the heavy items well so the bags often are way too heavy. For reasons passing understanding, so many people can't walk a few steps to park the shopping cart in the cart corral.

But that said, we enjoy the experience of getting through that mess together.

We've got a little pad of note paper on the kitchen counter. When we're out of something, we write it down. It saves a lot of time and keeps us organized. So often the trip to the grocery isn't planned. One of us will make the "meet me at Freddie's" call on the way home from work, and the other just has to tear off the latest list and head on down.

We like our grocery bags too. No more plastic for us. We have 16 bags total, 8 from Safeway and 8 from Fred Meyer. We shop Safeway when all we have on the list are food items. And we'll hit Freddie's when we need sundries.

We enjoy putting things away when we get home too. It's very homey and domestic, and again it's something we do together. We have a small kitchen, so putting groceries away affords us many opportunities to bump into each other.

Tell me you don't like to "accidentally" bump into your honey like that.

Right...of course you do. And so do we!

Interesting, Trav. And maybe if more men thought of the "bumping into" part and the potential that holds, maybe a lot more of them would then be willing to assist in the grocery shopping detail!

Tee hee... that's just sooo heartwarming!

I'm in charge of the putting up. Hubby passes stuff to me...

I could have written this about Nancy and I

We love all the things about the experience you do and dislike all the things you mentioned

OH and our kitchen is not small, but we still bump into each other!

  1. Very sweet, and it sounds a lot like Lana and me.

  1. Very sweet personal post, Travis! I loved the images and the simple pleasures in something like the grocery store.

I wish Dustin loved to go with me because grocery shopping is something I'm loathe to do... especially carrying the bags into the house.

    Love this post!

  1. My Cdub will grocery shop with me too. You guys are rare breeds.

Accidentally bump???? Officer Friendly was in charge of the top sehlves in the cupboard cuz he was 6'5'' and I was in charge of the lower shelves - cuz I'm not 6'5". Not even close. Sweet post - the small kitchen part.

  1. We have a slightly different market dance, as The Teamster is a creature of habit. However we do like to go together.

I don't "accidentally" bump into my roommates in the kitchen. Our kitchen is about a foot wide.

Jeni: It's all about the little fun things I say.

Lois: We both unload the bags and sort. Then one of us does the cabinet food and the other does the fridge/freezer. We trade off.

V: The bumping is the best part!

Charles: You & Lana, Vinny & Nancy, me & Pam...we know how to enjoy the little things.

Clancy: I guess it's all in how you approach it...or maybe I'm just a little weird.

    NNG: Good for Cdub!

GGG: Well, sometimes it's an accident and sometimes it might not be. Hehehehehe!

Katherine: It's the together part that makes it enjoyable.

Beck: Ours is a little wider than that.

I went to the store just a few hours ago!
I definitely agree with the part about people not controlling their kids well enough. OMG. I saw (and heard) kids screeching and shouting, with the parents not even TRYING to explain that they should keep their voices down. I saw kids playing with breakable glass stuff, with parents nowhere in sight.

My blog post on Saturday will explain what I bought at the grocery store. My innards are on fire, and I'm so glad. :)

Speaking of being glad, it's good to have you back!!! :D

Awww ... this just sounds so nice! I can just picture the two of you strolling down the aisle and putting things in the cart while chatting and laughing. I love it! And of course the putting away part at home sounds ideal, too.

    I think I need a grocery partner!

  1. I hate the grocery store, hubby or no hubby. *LOL* I always get agitated while I'm there. Usually by the time I get home, I'm tired and he'll put them away. He's much more organized than I so he takes more time and effort to get things in the cabinets neatly.

  1. Travis says:

Janna: Thanks! And if you're happy that your innards are on fire, then I'm happy for you!

Linda: I guess it really comes down to enjoying the time we spend together.

    CWM: And that's teamwork too!

Hubby and I like to do the grocery shopping by ourselves because then the kids aren't bugging us to buy this favorite snack or that favorite chocolate or four different kids of cereal get the picture.

Awwww so happy you are happy! Bump away babies!
