Welcome to Set 3.

We checked in with American Idol this week. They've finished up all the roaming city auditions and settled in for Hollywood week. I'm glad we ignored the audition process this season, because we have no preconceptions and have not been influenced by stories and characters. We're just in it for the music.

The Top 12 gals and Top 12 guys will be chosen next week. So this week I bring you music from my three favorite former Idol contestants. Bo finished second in season 5, DC won season 7, and Taylor won season 5.

Witness is an original composition by Bo Bice with AJ Croce. It was released in Oct 2007 and appears on the album See the Light.

Permanent is an original composition by David Cook with Chantal Kreviazuk and Raine Maida. It was released in May 2009 and appears on DC's self-titled debut album. Come Back to Me was written by Amund Bjorklund, Espen Lind, and Zac Maloy. It was released in March 2009 and also appears on DC's first album.

Medicated Goo was written by Steve Winwood and Jimmy Miller. It appears on the Traffic album Last Exit, released in 1969. I remember that Taylor's performances of this song during his solo tour drew raves, and emphasized his skill as a live performer.

Somehow is an original composition by Taylor Hicks. It appears on the Early Works album, released in 2008. This album features songs from Taylor's self-released albums In Your Time and Under the Radar. Somehow emphasizes Taylor's ability as a songwriter.

    Trav, I LOVE the Idol stories, but the bottom line is the music. I have to say Taylor Hicks was my pick from the get-go. Glad you included some Soul-Patrol!

    For some reason the code I got only had three songs in it. Of course that way people can listen to "Baby Grand" three times and then the other two. :-)

    I can never stand to watch the audition process of any of these talent shows. My heart always breaks for the people who should have stayed at home. lol

    GGG: I don't mind the stories. I just don't like the way the producers emphasize the stories over the singing. And I don't care for all the bad auditions they show. Soul Patrol!

    Mimi: I didn't really get a good sense. I'm ready for the Top 24 though, and I'm glad that they dumped that Top 36 from last season.

    Very nice, Travis! I had forgotten about Bo Bice but I do remember liking him very much during his run on Idol.

    Debra: It was tough to pick a couple of songs off his debut because I like all of them so well.

    Linda: It was a shame for Bo to have the health problems in the couple of years after his appearance on Idol. It really derailed him for a bit.

    I've ignored the auditions as well. Hopefully this year will grab me more than the last few. Good choice of music, though I've never been able to get behind David Cook that much. He's good, he just doesn't do much for me. Now Taylor of course. And I find myself liking Bo more and more. His See The Light album is a really good album of southern rock.
