Five on Friday Set 20

First a little business.  The title of last week's Five on Friday post said Set 18 while the play list said Set 19.  I did a wooops in the post title.  Last week was in fact the 19th Set.  Sorry for any confusion if you're playing along.

Next, let me make it clear...I am not a fan of the program Glee.  I am not entertained by adults who should know better being cruel to kids just because they can.  I do not find blatant lies and manipulation entertaining.  Neither Pam nor I find it entertaining that a bully exploits issues such as sexual harassment in the workplace, portraying herself as the victim of it when she is in fact the perpetrator.  We do not care for the often demeaning way the program portrays diversity and difference.  And we don't like the stereotypes on which nearly every character is based.

Third, keep in mind that's just our opinion.

I can tell you that we are entertained by the talented young people on the program, which is why we record it so that we can fast forward through the stuff we don't find entertaining to get to the stuff we want to see.

So for Set 20, I've stretched the guidelines again to bring you 11 reasons why we watched Season 1 of Glee and will likely watch Season 2 when it returns in the fall.

Aw ... this is so sweet. Not fair making a girl cry first thing in the morning!

Happy First Date Anniversary to you and Pam and may you never ever have to have a first date ever again!

  1. True love stories are so much better than the ones writers invent. Congratulations on the anniversary. Now I have to catch up on Glee.

  1. Read Glee comments after congratulations on anniversary. Thanks for giving me a way to watch it. I wondered what all the uproar was about but liked the musical clips on the news. Now Just put it on the DVR schedule.

  1. Great choice of songs Travis. Happy Friday.

  1. Show does nothing for me at all...

Watched half of one episode and that is it

  1. Cool choise.I enjoyed the tunes by the Glee Cast.

I love Glee but I recognize that every word you say it true. Anyway, this set is one of my favorites that you've posted.

  1. I love Glee - darkness and all. High school is full of it. I think it brings a layer of rawness to the show that I really appreciate.

Of course, I'm the person who can't bear to watch the contestants get eliminated on Dancing With the Stars - so go figure. For me, the fictional aspect of drama is the thing. Ultimately, I know they are actors giving a performance. But on a show where there is a person whose actual feelings are being crushed right in front of me - there's no fiction buffer there. Too painful for me.

Meanwhile - LOVED your set today! Especially Somebody to Love, Don't Rain on My Parade and I'll Stand By You.

  1. Linda: Enjoy your visit with Jamie!

Jamie: Glee isn't what we wanted it to be, but the musical numbers are entertaining so that's just good enough for us.

NNG: I could have included a lot more.

V: We've almost walked away from it several times. But we do enjoy the musical numbers.

    Mike: It's a good group.

Marilyn: Most of that stuff just isn't enjoyable to me to watch.

Julia: I don't necessarily disagree. I just don't find it entertaining to watch on series television.

  1. I DO love the music from Glee. I like watching the production numbers on the show as well. Thanks for sharing these.
