Would you agree with me that there are songs that have a timeless quality?  You can place them in the era during which they were originally conceived, but they also stand up to time.

I think the songs of Gordon Lightfoot have that quality, and that's one reason why I chose these five classics for Set 26.

many of these are new to me but still a great choice! Happy Weekend to ya.

  1. I saw Gordon Lightfoot in concert at the height of his career. It was one of the most enjoyable nights I can remember. Love his work. Thank you for sharing. Have a great week-end.

  1. Travis - this set rocks! This would be my 5 on Friday, Gordon Lightfoot version, too, though I would switch Early Morning Rain for Pussywillows Cattails. And If You Could Read My Mind is my absolute favorite. Gothic, moody, paperback novel...love it.

If You Could Read My Mind has always been my all-time Gordon Lightfoot favorite and I totally agree that it has a timeless quality even though listening to it takes me right back to the time it came out. It's a haunting song.

The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald has always been a favorite, too, and one of the first songs I think of when I think of Gordon Lightfoot. Talk about a haunting song and story!

Amanda asked to be able to pick my five again for this week so the choices are all hers but definitely most listenable!

  1. Travis,Great selection, that for the good music.I needed it.especially after the disasterous week( my own fault) I just had.

  1. I bought my first Gordon LIghtfoot album more than 40 years ago. On the back in translated notes he stated, "I Am A Poet". Hold up? Darn right he does. The strength of his lyrics still have power after performing for 45 plus years. I finally got to see him perform live about 15 years ago. My favorite Lightfoot, the incredible ballad and story song Canadian Railroad Trilogy

  1. Gordon Lightfoot is a talent. I have always enjoyed his incredible style.

I went with local Memphis bands.

  1. I'm definitely a Lightfoot fan. I think Pink Floyd's music has that quality too.

I love Gordon Lightfoot, too! While tenors are my favorite I also enjoy a really good baritone. I also love songs that tell a story. I've actually been you tubing lots of 60s and 70s songs lately...

Trav: I love Gordon Lightfoot. This is why I keep checking in even when I don't recognize your Friday Five. The Edmund Fitzgerald is a story from my neck of the woods. I live four and a half hours from the "big lake they call Gitche Gumee."

  1. Gordon Lightfoot! I am in a nice time warp vibe here.....very nice.

P.S. I played for the first time today. And I broke the rules. I'm stuck on ONE song today and not five. I hope you don't throw me in the dungeon.
