The power of football

You'll hear a lot of cliches about the game of football.  But I've never heard the power of the game expressed more clearly than this...

"You take this kid from south central Los Angeles and bring him to Atlanta, GA, and take another child from the mountains of north Georgia, and they've been raised very differently, probably raised to hate each other.  And you make 'em sweat in the same color shirt.  And they come in and out of that locker room, and they pull that nasty jersey off enough times, and it starts to dawn...that sweat smells about the same on everybody.  And I get busted in my mouth and my blood's the same color as my brother here.

And a miracle happens and I call it the miracle of team.  It's why I do what I do.  Those two guys raised to hate each other become brothers and they love each other, and it lasts for the rest of your life."

Bill Curry, head coach of Georgia State, on the ESPN program Boys of Fall

I love this! So very true!

I'd venture to say, there are many people outside of football who could learn much from these words too.

  1. I don't know about "miracle," but it's a nice sentiment, of course.

  1. Travis that is a wonderful quote. I believe this is what team work is all about. I wish everyone could be that way.

Looking forward to the fall line up.

I responded to your disappointment of not being able to watch the Raiders over at my place. I don't know why you can't watch, but if you go to the following website while the game's on, you'll at least be able to monitor the game in real time. I found it last year when having trouble watching the Vikings in D.C. :)

  1. I get it now! Hallelujah!!

But why do they have to knock each other down? **shaking my head**

I LOVE THIS QUOTE! How cool that it is from a former University of Alabama coach :)

I read your comment on Pam's blog about Fall being in your kneck of the woods. I'm GREEN with envy Travis. Here in the south, we are still sweltering - low to mid 90's everyday. I'm ready for some cooler weather!

Have a wonderful week and enjoy your fall!
