Ghost Story - coming in April 2011

Posted: Tuesday, November 30, 2010 by Travis Cody in

I know what I'm getting for my birthday in Apirl!!

I am a huge fan of Jim Butcher's work.  I think his wizard detective, Harry Dresden, is one of the great characters in urban fiction.  And I only have to wait five more months to get the resolution to the cliff hanger at the end of Changes.

The next book, Ghost Story, drops in April 2011.

If you like good mysteries, strong characters, and thrilling plots, I highly recommend the Dresden novels.

I think the thing I enjoy most about Mr Butcher's writing is that he piles things up on Dresden until you can't possibly imagine how Harry is going to get out of the mess.  Then Mr Butcher finds a plausible and realistic way for Harry to prevail.

Dresden is flawed, which is another thing that makes him such a great character.

Start with Storm Front.  Then there are 11 more novels plus a book of short fiction centered around the characters found in the Dresden world.  That ought to keep you busy until Ghost Story.

Thanks for the tip! I love me a good mystery/thriller...

  1. Will need to check this out... thanks :)

  1. I've got a Butcher novel at home but have not yet read it. I don't know why I hesitate since I've heard so much good stuff about him.

My Steve is a huge fan of Butcher's work and our bookshelves are gradually filling up with that name. Now I am going to have to start reading them!

Sounds like an author I would like. :)

  1. When I saw "Ghost Story" I though you were talking about Peter Straub. That book screwed me up something fierce!

Thanks for the tip. I hadn't seen when it was coming out, but I'll look for it. Are you going to buy the hard copy or the kindle version? I've bought some books on my Ipad, but still find it hard not to want the actual book, especially with something like this when I have all the other books in the series. Just curious on your thoughts.

  1. Lois: I think you'll like these a lot. And with your Kindle, I suspect you'll fly right through them.

    Terra: You're welcome!

Charles: Give it a go. And if you get hooked, you can blame me.

Coco: Do! It'll give you one more thing in common!

    Akelamalu: I know I do.

Lana: This series isn't really scary...sometimes, but not nightmare scary.

John: I think I'll probably get the hard copy. I have all the others except for the short stories in hard copy, so I think this is one author I want to own the actual books.

How fortunate that Mr Butcher releases his book to co-incide with your birthday, Mr Travis!

Only 5 months, eh? It'll fly by.
