Super Bowl XLV

Super Bowl XLV is set.  It's NFC Champion Green Bay versus AFC Champion Pittsburgh.  The Packers have a chance to win the 4th Super Bowl title in 5 trips to the big game, while the Steelers can win an unprecedented 7th championship in 8 tries.

Dallas (5-3) is the only other NFL franchise that has been to 8 Super Bowls.  San Francisco (5-0) is the only franchise that has been to multiple championship games and never lost.

The game will be played on 6 February 2011.

I don't have a favorite here.  In fact, I have disliked Green Bay since I learned about football and as a Raider fan, I have a traditional dislike of Pittsburgh.

I like Aaron Rodgers, QB for the Packers.  I kind of like Hines Ward, WR for the Steelers.

But I'm essentially indifferent to the result of the game.  The best I can say is that in two weeks, football season will be over and I can focus specifically and intently on college basketball.

Good luck to fans of both teams.

  1. Guys, listen. I’m on OUR side. I think. But Allie was questioning Cutler and than defending him against other posters. I said I do the SAME THING. My point was we can ALL be hypocritical. And we (meaning you j/k) can call people out for it. I guess I’m actually VERY upset by the way that our fans posted overall. The trolls rolled in and out and things got ugly. But let my favorites try their best to remain pure in my in game threads.

I watched the Bear/Packers game. The Bears just kept losing the dang ball... OY!

I'm neutral on this one as well. Was neutral on the playoffs as well. But it's still fun to watch the fans get so excited.

  1. While I don't know very much about football, I do enjoy watching it with Hubs. I can never get into BB.

Terry Bradshaw went to the same collegs with us, so I am for the Steelers. Does that make any sense?

    The Yellow Pants Super Bowl!!!

  1. Once the Saints and colts were out, I was rooting for the Packers. I'm not overly concerned either way but will probably root for the packers in the game.

  1. Not sure how Mr Trains got here, but clearly his comment is meant for some comment thread elsewhere since nowhere in my post did I mention the Bears or Jay Cutler.

Lois: I guess now I fall into the camp of wanting a good game.

Pam: That's as good a reason as any to root for one team or the other.

GGG: You're right! I hadn't looked at it that way. LOL!

Charles: Not sure I'll end up rooting one way or the other. It'll probably be an in-game decision.

This went right over my head as I know absolutely nothing about football, so I'll just say Hi and happy Monday. :)

Trav: A guy might not look at it that way, but my sis and I noticed. ;-)

In fact . . . I may have to devise some yellow pants cookies or a cake . . . for the big event!

I'm traditionally a Vikings fan, and so I know that I'm supposed to be rooting for whomever is playing the Packers. However, I also love to root for the underdog. So, even though Vegas has the Packers over the Steelers (as of the writing of this comment), as the 6th seed Wildcard team making it to the Superbowl, I have to go with the Pack. And I'd love to see them win a championship post-Favre. How's that for a convoluted line of reasoning. lol

I think it's high time everyone realizes that the Steelers - not the Cowboys - are America's team. :)

  1. No rooting interest except for a competitive 60 minutes of football to keep me from napping half way through

  1. Akelamalu: That's OK. It's just an announcement about the American Super Bowl.

GGG: I guess it would have occurred to me at some point that both uniform colors include that particular shade of yellow. Maybe you should knit a yellow pants scarf!

Cherie: Any bit of reasoning will do to get psyched up about the game!

Beck: I submit that there is no such thing as America's Team anyway. However, the argument can be made that Pittsburgh is the most successful NFL franchise of the last 5 years or so, since they've won 2 out of the last 5 Super Bowls. Good luck!

    V: I hear that.

Trav: It could happen! Need to run to the yarn shop for . . . YELLOW!
