A summer of history

I haven't done many historical essays thus far in 2011.  That is about to change.  Interspersed throughout the next 90 days or so, you'll find posts commemorating:

  • The landings at Normandy during World War II
  • The assassination of Robert F Kennedy
  • The Battle for Midway Island during World War II
  • The establishment of the Continental Army
  • The spark that ignited World War I and the treaty that set in motion events leading to World War II
  • The Battle of Gettysburg during the Civil War
  • The Battle of Britain during World War II
  • The establishment of the US Army Air Corps
  • The bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki to finally end World War II
Those are the big events that most of you probably know about if you passed high school history.  I've written about many of them in the past.  I'll probably find some other items of interest...well, they'll be of interest to me and my need to understand.

I can't know.  I can only read the accounts of those who were there.  These events are important to me, and being important to me, I share them with you.

I'm kicking myself for missing Gettysburg on TV last night. Going to try to catch it on Thursday.

I'll be waiting for your posts!
    Hugs!

Keep sharing those historical accounts you like to post as I very much enjoy reading them. Okay, you have an audience of one but actually, I'm thinking those posts especially give you a much larger audience than you even realize. You do a really great job on those posts, Trav.

I'm glad those items are of interest to you because I always know where to go to get an interesting post. Question for you, though, Trav: Have you heard of the book "Unbroken" by Lauren Lillenbrand? I heard about it on the local very news late last night. It's Louis Zamparini's WWII POW story. I'm on my way to the bookstore to get it. Hope it's a good read. The clip of him on the news was interesting. I figured it anyone has heard about it, you have.

O' boy, my kind of posts! I'm looking forward to all of them and, of course, Gettysburg in particular as that one is near and dear to my own heart.

    Bring 'em on!

  1. That is some collection of information you are going to share Sir

And I loved the post for Monday

  1. Sounds like a plan. I always enjoy your history posts.

  1. Looking forward to the history lessons. I don't think we will ever understand the size and scope of events like Normandy or Gettysburg.
