Five on Friday Set 80

I was just a little guy trying to discover my own style and find my own music when I first heard Stevie Nicks.  I didn't have a sophisticated vocabulary back then, so I didn't know the word I wanted to describe what I felt.  I do now.

Incredulity - the state of being unable or unwilling to believe something.

I was incredulous that a voice could sound like hers.  Incredulous that a voice could reach me like Stevie's could.

Sure...I knew Streisand and Sinatra and Garland and Holiday and Cole and Janis.  That list goes on and on.  My mom was all about music and she introduced me to incredible vocal talents.

But Stevie...raw, sensual, enticing, mysterious, yearning.  All those things I didn't have the wherewithal to describe but felt anyway, right down to my bones.  There haven't been many voices between then and now that have even come close to making me feel what Stevie's voice made me feel when I was just a little guy trying to discover my own style and find my own music.

Until now.

Adele has that kind of voice.  At least I think so.  We finally picked up 21 and there's just something about it.  I'm incredulous again...in a good way.

  1. I still remember the first time I saw Stevie spinning in her unusual clothes of uneven hemlines that to this day are among my favorite styles - all bewitching and free. Then you see Adele, sitting very stiffly on a chair with nothing but that magnificent voice giving her presence. Each woman in her own way totally singular and unique. Great set.

  1. I agree about Stevie and Adele. There will never be another Stevie in my book. Her presence soooo huge...filling up the stage with everything she has.

  1. Stevie is a talent. This Adele is coming on. She is one of the few modern artists with major contracts I will listen to.

Sorry Trav...had some more home owner situations last night. Both leaks are now fixed, but by the time I got done and washed off the mud-man suit I was wearing it was too late to put something together.

  1. Loved your homage to Stevie Nicks - even though this is an Adele set.

  1. Oh yeah, Stevie Nicks has the voice. My favorite singer. I could listen to her for hours.

Stevie Nicks is still A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. we saw her (with Fleetwood Mac) at the MEN Arena in Manchester at the beginning of the year.

I love Adele too and you're right she has a unique quality too.

  1. Rolling in the Deep - definitely my favorite this week.

Sitting in ER and ICU with someone all week. No music or TV. But reading about your set this week helped!

  1. Had problems posting but mine finally is up, at the last minute last night. I like Stevie, but I've never been a big Stevie Nicks fan. Now I was a huge fan of "Stop Dragging My Heart Around." I once played that song like ten times in a row on the juke box.
