It's encores and results!

That's right friends and neighbors...by the time you get to the end of this post, you'll know which of our remaining couples made the Final Four and will be one week closer to that Glittering Globe of Glory.

Let's begin with what we liked about Monday's performances.

Hope and Maks make the encores for the first time.  This Quickstep was wonderful.  Click here if the video doesn't play.

I won't say that JR and Karina didn't deserve a perfect 30 for their Waltz.  I will say that I wasn't as in love with it as everyone in the ballroom was.  Click here if the video doesn't play.

I will say that I don't think JR and Karina should have gotten 30 for their Instant Jive.  I did enjoy it, but we didn't think it was perfect.  Click here if the video doesn't play.

I didn't think the Instant Jive from Ricki and Derek was perfect either.  I know it was flawed.  But I enjoyed it more than the Jive from JR and Karina.  Click here if the video doesn't play.

Many will disagree with me, but Pam and I enthusiastically endorse the Waltz from Ricki and Derek as dance of the night.  We were in love with this dance.  Click here if the video doesn't play.

It's not that we didn't enjoy JR and Karina.  It's not that we don't think they are an excellent pair.  I'm not suggesting any intentionally unfair disparity in the scoring from the judges.  I just think that the score for JR and Karina's Jive was over generous.  And I think that the judges picked nits in Ricki and Derek's Waltz that they ignored in JR and Karina's performances.

That's all I'll say about that.

Here's a reminder of our leader board after Monday's performances:

60 JR and Karina
52 Ricki and Derek
52 Hope and Maks
51 Rob and Cheryl
44 Nancy and Tristan

Our Lady pros lead off the show.  OHMYGOSHTHATWASHOT!!!!!

First results...JR and Karina are in the Final Four.  Hope and Maks are in the Final Four.

Andrea Bocelli is in the ballroom, accompanied by Chris Botti on trumpet.  Our Dance Troupe gets dolled up for a wonderful Foxtrot.  Excellent.

Macy's Stars of Dance features Cirque du Soleil and their new show, which is a tribute to Michael Jackson, called The Immortal World Tour.  And we get a premier.  That looks like it's going to be a great show.

Flo Rida is in the ballroom.  Meh.  That's just not the kind of thing I enjoy.

Final results...Ricki and Derek are in the Final Four.  Rob and Cheryl are in the Final Four.

That means Nancy and Tristan are eliminated.

I agree with that decision.  She went just about as far as she could go, and I think she did it with class.

So our Final Four couples are:

Ricki and Derek
JR and Karina
Hope and Maks
Rob and Cheryl

Later gang!

  1. You know, I love that you love this show. Your enthusiasm is contagious!

I don't always read the full post because I don't follow the show, but I learned last year that Derek (and his sister Julianne, of course) is my good friend's first cousin. So, it's fun to watch he and Ricki on the floor and be able to talk about it with my friend.

So... thanks for keeping me in the "know" about this show! ;-)

  1. Always enjoy your commentary. I'm now down to JR and Ricki so either one walking away with the mirror ball would be fine.

Nancy! Finally! Yay! Did not have Justin Bieber to distract me this week :)

I get what you're saying about the more romantic feeling with Derek & Ricki's waltz, but now that I've watched the clips, I can tell you why JR & Karina got the higher score. It flat out was a more difficult routine. O

kay, Karina did a lot more flash as the pro than Ricki can reasonably be expected to do, but JR did not hold back. T

hen, there's the footwork. JR's was much better, and Mr. Cranky Pants was right. Ricki didn't have one heel lead in there. On every one beat, and especially in pivots it's vital. Derek could pull her through, so it was hard to tell from the top. But that's because he's such a fantastic leader.

The footwork criticism can seem nit-picky, especially when we're watching it on tv. They switch cameras, so it gets a bit chopped up and jumpy no matter what. But live and in person, incorrect footwork can really hold back the flow of the dance.

So, what I'm really trying to say is that even though Ricki's dance was great, you and Pam would have fainted dead away from it's brilliance if Ricki had taken heel leads. ;P

  1. Nancy did go further than most would have expected. I agree with your points about the scores given to JR vs Ricki

    Final Four Baby!

Nancy was indeed the right choice for elimination. She fought the good fight, but the better dancers are still in the competition.
