Five on Friday Set 101

Posted: Friday, December 30, 2011 by Travis Cody in

I could tell you that this final Set of 2011 has a meaningful purpose.  I could tell you that it effectively wraps up the year and eases us into 2012.  I could tell you I put a lot of thought into the songs I selected for this 101st Set.

But I won't.

You see, I've been so busy at work that this final Friday in 2011 snuck up on me.  So Set 101 is just a collection of tunes that played randomly during my commute today.

Life is kind of like that sometimes.  Catch you on the flip side.

Cherry Cherry Coupe, written by Brian Wilson/Roger Christian, as released by The Beach Boys, 1963

It's Impossible, written by Armando Manzanero as Somos Novios, as released by Perry Como, 1970

Real World, written by Richard Marx, as released on the album Repeat Offender, 1989

Midnight Confessions, written by Lou Josie, as released by The Grass Roots, 1968

Don't Cry Out Loud, written by Peter Allen/Carole Bayer Sager, as released by Melissa Manchester, 1978

It's okay that you didn't do all those things, 'cause I did it for you. :-) This way, you gave me some great music that would have been missed otherwise. Need to get more Richard Marx for the IPOD.

  1. The "Little Duce Coupe" album was one of the first albums I owned as a teen. Thanks for the memories.

  1. Ivanhoe says:

Sometimes simple or straight from the heart is the best choice :)
I used to love Richard Marx and wanted to marry him! Hahaha!
    Have a great weekend, Trav!

  1. Akelamalu says:

Wishing you and yours a Very Happy and Healthy 2012 x

  1. I have not heard Midnight confession in ages, thanks for putting in the set.

  1. I'd take the Grass roots out of this selection. Midnight confessions has some good rhythm.

  1. Happy New Year, Travis and Pam!

I'll go with Mike and Charles and single out Midnight Confessions as my head-and-shoulders fave this week.

I'm a wee bit late posting because I had to take Xena out to the vet. But it was such a pleasure to finally get her there. I've been hoping her skin allergies would clear up once the cold weather hit, but they totally didn't. So now she's on the mend.

  1. Cherie says:

I do a sort of random thing all the time. Meaning that I shuffle my player, and if I like it, I'll choose it. If I don't, I'll skip it. I'm going to go away from the pack as to favorite this week to Melissa Manchester.

Now that's an interesting set. Melissa and Perry et al! Fun mix.

  1. Linda says:

A lot of thought or no thought - I thought they were all great! I especially liked the Melissa Manchester song and Richard Marx has always been a good listen for me!

    Happy New Year's Eve, Travis!
