No, it's really not

I won't be posting much here about politics, even though this is a presidential election year.  But some things just have to be addressed, and this is one of those times.

GOP candidate Rick Santorum has been quoted as saying of rape, that women should "make the best out of a bad situation"

Mr Santorum evidently goes on to say that any woman, even his own daughter, should resist the urge to abort a pregnancy from a rape, and to "accept this horribly created baby, because it was still a gift from God, even if given in a 'broken' way."

I'll give you a minute to double take on that, absorb it, and try to understand such a position.

I know...I couldn't either.  I find those comments disturbing.  So I wrote to Mr Santorum.  The text of my letter is...

Dear Mr Santorum,

Please consider that nothing about rape is a gift.

I fully support a woman's right to choose.

Well, thank you for this post, Trav! I do support the right to choose as well.
    Have a great Tuesday!

Nothing about rape is a gift. It is s horribly violent act.

Hope you were able to enjoy yesterday's sunshine.

Santorum's stance shows a clear lack of . . . many things, not the least of which is sensitivity to those who have experienced such incredibly violent acts of disrespect to humanity! GGG

  1. You wonder how he could even think that way. It boggles the mind.

Santorum has said many disturbing things. :(

  1. I support our right to choose in such a situation as rape, absolutely. And, if the pregnancy is a threat to a woman's life, I think it's ok to choose then too.

But as a convenience because pregnancy is a consequence of choosing to have sex? Nope. In my opinion, she already used her choice.

(not trying to make any waves... just feel strongly about this issue so I feel compelled to speak my opinion.)

Good for you Trav. The man is obviously an I.D.I.O.T.!

  1. Travis, this is horrible for any person to say. I support a woman's right to do with her body as she wishes.

Thanks for bringing this to light.
    Pam

  1. Ivanhoe: I thought it was important to make a statement against that kind of thinking.

    Jean: It is indeed.

GGG: He seems blinded by his own belief system.

    Charles: He really has.

Clancy: Never be concerned about making your opinion known here. I do like the way you worded your second paragraph.

Akelamalu: That's one word for him.

Pam: If he wants to be President, he's going to have to remember that he'll be President of all of us, even of those who don't follow his belief.

Santorum as President? Oh, pleeeezzze! NO! That man absolutely sickens me with his theories on things and especially about Women's Rights. Frankly, my own thoughts about him concern something called "lunacy!"

  1. Linda says:

I support that right also. Very nicely put, Travis!

  1. Appalling. I guess I'm technically "pseudo-pro-life," I fully admit that I have NO RIGHT to tell someone whether or not she should carry through a pregnancy. As for rape, well, that's an area in which I have some experience, and you are correct: NOTHING about it is a gift.
