I should be doing a tribute Set today.  On this day in 1959, a small charter plane crashed shortly after take off from an airfield near Mason City Iowa.  Everyone on board was killed including Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and JP "Big Bopper" Richardson.

Buddy Holly was 22.  Ritchie Valens was 17.  JP Richardson was 28.

FoF Set 2 was a tribute Set to the three men who died on 3 February 1959.  If you like, you can listen to that Set here.

Instead of another tribute Set, I chose some outstanding southern rock tunes.  Let's rock y'all...southern style.

  1. It's been ages since I last heard, "It You Wanna Get To Heaven". That was fun. I mentioned "The Day The Music Died" in passing, but did a major time travel event to the whole era.

  1. Green grass and high tides is just an amazing song. I'm also a fan of Flirtin' with Disaster, as you probably suspected

I love "Dixie Chicken"! I believe that one came out when I was stationed at Keesler Air Force Base in Mississippi so I always associate that tune with Biloxi which somehow seems appropriate!

I was inspired by Jamie's post today and took a short stroll down memory lane which for me ended up being the years 1971 to 1975.

I don't know any of those. I like Buddy Holly though. :)

Most of those songs were new to me. I think my fav had to be the one by The Outlaws with those awesome guitar solos!

  1. Dixie Chicken is one of my favorite songs! I used to listen to that over and over in high school.
