Cue that theme music!

But first, please give thought to these words...

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that.  Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.  Hate multiplies hate, violence multiplies violence, and toughness multiplies toughness in a descending spiral of destruction...The chain reaction of evil - hate begetting hate, wars producing more wars - must be broken, or we shall be plunged into the abyss of annihilation.  (MLK, 1963)

On 4 April 1968, Dr Martin Luther King Jr was gunned down as he spoke from the balcony of the Lorraine Motel in Memphis, TN.  He was just 39 years old.  He was a leader for us all and his words are as powerful today as they were when he first spoke them and wrote them.

We have come so far, and yet we have so much farther to go.  Recent events in Florida have taught us how much more work is needed to put our social house in order.  It's easy to be cynical these days about respect and peace.  I'm not saying that there aren't things worth fighting for, because there are.  But the fight won't always require a closed fist.  Sometimes the fight calls for an open hand, stretched forth in love, respect, and brotherhood.

Please keep the words of Dr King, and the ideas behind them, foremost in your thoughts, not just today as we commemorate the day he was assassinated, but every day.

 15 January 1929 - 4 April 1968

And now, frivolity, with respect.

It's encores and results.

We liked an awful lot about Monday's performances.  It was tough to narrow down our encore selections.  But we shall persevere and give you an excellent sampling.

First...if you're interested to see what Louis van Amstel has to say about Week 3, check it out here.

I thought Maria and Derek were going to dance away with high score on the night with the 27 they earned for a beautiful Rumba.  I got a right good shiver watching that again.  Click here if the video doesn't play.

But then came Katherine and Mark with a lovely Waltz that scored the first 10s of the season for a total of 29.  I appreciated the performance the first time through, but I was able to enjoy it more on second viewing without listening to the emotional story that inspired it.  Click here if the video doesn't play.

We liked the uber cool character in the Rumba from Jaleel and Kym.  Click here if the video doesn't play.

It's one thing to know Salsa rhythms, it's quite another to dance Salsa well.  William and Cheryl took that to the bank in this fun and sexy routine.  Click here if the video doesn't play.

We really enjoyed the poignant Rumba from Donald and Peta.  Click here if the video doesn't play.

You'd think one of the higher scoring routines would be our choice for dance of the night.  Nope.  We went for most improved, and that's Gavin.  He danced a terrific Rumba with Karina, and we loved it.  That's our DOTN.  Click here if the video doesn't play.

Outstanding!

Here's a reminder of our leader board after Monday's performances.

29 Katherine and Mark
28 William and Cheryl
27 Maria and Derek
26 Donald and Peta
25 Jaleel and Kym
25 Roshon and Chelsie
24 Gavin and Karina
24 Gladys and Tristan
24 Sherri and Val
24 Jack and Anna
24 Melissa and Maks

Seal leads off the show with a stirring rendition of Lean On Me, accompanied by our Dance Troupe.
Len says he wants the producers to roll everyone through to next week, but no dice.  Someone has to go home, dangit.

First results...Katherine and Mark are safe.  Maria and Derek are safe.  Roshon and Chelsie are safe.

It's the AT&T Spotlight Dance, featuring my favorite pro pair of Anna Trebunskaya and Jonathan Roberts.  The story is about their friend and fellow ballroom dancer, Julia Ivleva, who is battling stage 4 lung cancer.  You all know it, but I'll say it again.  I hate cancer.  Anna and Jonathan danced a gorgeous waltz in tribute to their frined.

More results...William and Cheryl are safe.  Jaleel and Kym are safe.  Sherri and Val are safe.

Macy's Stars of Dance...I'm so excited!!!  It's Travis Wall!  It's Twitch!  It's Kenny Wormald!  It's awesome!!  WOW!  Check it out!  Choreography by Misha Gabriel and Nick Bass.

And the entertainment keeps on coming.  It's Rascal Flats in the ballroom with a new song, accompanied by Tony and Sharna.

Final results...Donald and Peta are safe.  Melissa and Maks are safe.  Gladys and Tristan are safe.  Gavin and Karina are safe.

And that means Jack and Anna are out.

I feel bad for Jack because he seemed really to be enjoying the experience.  But every week, somebody good is going to g home.  I'm glad Gavin gets another chance.

And what a chance it's going to be...Rock Week!  Tune in and bang your head babies!!

Congratulations to Baylor University for beating Notre Dame to win the NCAA Women's Basketball championship.  The Lady Bears finished the season 40-0, and that has never been done before in college basketball, by men or women.

Well done!

When we toured the Southern States last year it was a very poignant moment seeing the Lorraine motel. Dr King was an inspiration.

  1. The choreography on the Macy's group was just mind blowingly fantastic. Now that was dancing.

OK. I saw Jack doing some hip thrust thingy and I busted out laughing... They showed it on this morning's news. It cracked me up. Yep, he was having fun. I think he knew he was going so he decided to just "ham" it up.

    Hugs!

  1. A lot of Martin Luther King events happening here. Had we not had such a long day yesterday I might have tried to go. But I think today I need some resting around the house.

  1. Got to see most of the show Monday and man it was a tight race IMHO

Surprised Jack went home, but the fan base must not have supported him

I can drive 20 minutes from my home and be at the Lorraine Motel...as a matter of fact, The Blues Hall of Fame will be located across the street as is the National Civil Rights Museum
