Cue that theme music

It's encores and results!

Performances this week included some dances never before performed on DWTS, or not performed in awhile.  The varied styles made for some terrific performances and brought the first glimpse of the 10 paddles.

This is what we liked.

Kelly broke her toe in rehearsal and still managed to dance a compelling Contemporary piece, with beautiful choreography designed by partner Val.  I thought the score was inflated because of some technique flaws, but the dance was certainly emotionally powerful.  Click here if the video doesn't play.

Jitterbug is one of my favorite styles of dance, to watch and to do.  Melissa and Tony took big risks with ambitious tricks, and they did miss on one lift.  But overall, I thought it was a strong effort.  I love watching them dance together.  Click here if the video doesn't play.

It's got to be unsettling when the pro you rely on doesn't know the dance you've been given to do.  So it was special to see Gilles and Peta present an outstanding Bollywood.  Click here if the video doesn't play.

Shawn and Derek continue to rise to the challenge.  Mambo has fallen out of favor over the last few years, but they brought the style back to the floor in all its Latin glory.  Derek mixed creative lifts with traditional Mambo elements, and Shawn handled it all with sass and style to earn dance of the night honors.  This one makes me wonder what Len is waiting for to throw a 10.  Click here if the video doesn't play.

Here's a reminder of our leader board after Monday's performances.

39.5 Shawn and Derek
39.5 Gilles and Peta
37.5 Kelly and Val
37.0 Melissa and Tony
36.0 Emmitt and Cheryl
35.5 Sabrina and Louis
34.5 Apolo and Karina
32.0 Bristol and Mark
30.0 Kirstie and Maks

Great opening number from our Dance Troupe with a few of our pros.

First results...Shawn and Derek are safe.  Kelly and Val are safe.  Sabrina and Louis are safe.

Macy's Stars of Dance is live, choreographed by Christopher Scott, and featuring the Legion of Extraordinary Dancers to music performed by Christina Grimmie.  Wow.

More results...Gilles and Peta are safe.  Emmitt and Cheryl are safe.

Next we have something called a passion project, by Cheryl Burke.  She reunites with several dancers she met at a young age and grew up dancing with.  She creates a dance for them all to music by Tito Puente Jr.  That was excellent.

Donny Osmond returns to the ballroom for a duet with Susan Boyle, accompanied by Kym and Tristan.

Now for freestyle team dances, the All Star captains will be the two celebrities with the highest cumulative score.  Gilles and Peta are captains.  Shawn and Derek are captains.

Each captain picks a song blind.  Gilles and Peta get Gangnam Style, while Shawn and Derek get Call Me Maybe.  G&P get to pick first...Kelly and Val, Kirstie and Maks, Emmitt and Cheryl.  S&D pick...Sabrina and Louis, Melissa and Tony, Apolo and Karina.

At first glance, I have to say Team S&D is the stronger of the two.  But anything goes in freestyle.  It should be fun!

Final results...Melissa and Tony are safe.  Apolo and Karina are safe.  Kirstie and Maks are safe.

That means Bristol and Mark are eliminated.

Next week is Guilty Pleasures...each celebrity gets to pick a song for their individual routine.  And we get the team freestyles.  And it's a 2-night performance event with no elimination.

The challenges just keep coming!

Later gang!

I feel like I save Kristie personally. lol If I hadn't voted, and she had got knocked off, I would have felt so guilty. So, that means I get to take the credit when she stays, right? :)

It's my Friday this week, so I expected to see some tunes! I may get to stay awake for all the dancing tonight because I don't have to get up early for work! GGG
