Cue that theme music!

It's encores and results!

Our 8 remaining pairs performed 4 dances each over the last 2 weeks.  Let's see what we liked.

A week ago Monday, Gilles and Peta danced a great Rumba.  Click here if the video doesn't play.

Also a week ago last Monday, Emmitt and Cheryl danced a great Samba.  Click here if the video doesn't play.

This week, Sabrina and Louis danced an emotional Rumba.  Click here if the video doesn't play.

Also this week, Apolo and Karina danced a very pretty Viennese Waltz.  Click here if the video doesn't play.

One more from this week...Shawn and Derek danced a terrific Cha Cha Cha.  Click here if the video doesn't play.

A week ago Tuesday, Shawn and Derek created theatre with an amazing Rumba.  This is my choice for dance of the three performance nights.  Click here if the video doesn't play.

You can make the case that it wasn't a Rumba (Len scored it an 8).  You can call out Shawn for not enough Rumba-like hip action.  You can suggest that the running leap-and-catch could be construed as a "lift" (Carrie Ann scored it a 9).  But what you cannot do is call that any less than a perfect performance (Bruno scored it a 10).

Here's a reminder of our final leader board after two individual and two group performances:

88.5 Sabrina and Louis
86.5 Apolo and Karina
86.0 Melissa and Tony
84.5 Shawn and Derek
84.0 Gilles and Peta
82.5 Emmitt and Cheryl
82.0 Kirstie and Maks
78.5 Kelly and Val

The judges choose the Viennese Waltz from Apolo and Karina as the encore.

First results...Emmitt and Cheryl are safe.  Kelly and Val are safe.

In case you didn't catch that, two of the three couples with the lowest scores over the last two weeks are safe.

Jason Mraz is in the ballroom, accompanied by Chelsie and Mark.  I really like that song.  The theme next week is fusion.  Chelsie and Mark just demonstrated the fusion between Rumba and lyrical contemporary.

More results...Shawn and Derek are safe.  Gilles and Peta are safe.

Check that now...the eliminated couple is going to come from the top 3 on that leader board.  We're seeing the power of fan base in an all star competition.

Macy's Stars of Dance is billed as a modern twist on Marie Antoinette, choreographed by RJ Durell and Nick Florez.  The costumes didn't make any sense with that choreography.  It was standard modern hip hop, with the dancers dressed up in period.  Nothing special or unique in the movement, which made the costumes a gimmick that didn't work for me.  I didn't like that piece at all.

As I said earlier, next week's theme is fusion.  Our couples get one piece of music and must combine two different dances in the routine.  And to make it even more challenging, each pair picks styles for each other in order of cumulative scores from lowest to highest.
  • Kirstie and Maks pick Tango/Cha Cha Cha for Melissa and Tony
  • Kelly and Val pick Aregntine Tango/Samba for Gilles and Peta
  • Emmitt and Cheryl pick Tango/Foxtrot for Sabrina and Louis
  • Apolo and Karina pick Quickstep/Samba for Kirstie and Maks
  • Melissa and Tony pick Tango/Paso Doble for Shawn and Derek
  • Shawn and Derek pick Rumba/Samba for Emmitt and Cheryl
  • Sabrina and Louis pick Cha Cha Cha/Foxtrot for Kelly and Val
  • Gilles and Peta pick Cha Cha Cha/Paso Doble for Apolo and Karina
Taylor Swift is in the ballroom.  Meh.  I enjoyed our Dance Troupe.

Final results...Melissa and Tony are safe.  Apolo and Karina are safe.

That means Sabrina and Louis are eliminated.

The fans voted her as the final all star celebrity, but they didn't come to her rescue to keep her on the show.  Week 6 strikes again.

Tune in next week for fusion dances.  No eliminations next week because next Tuesday is Election Day.  Don't forget to vote!

Later gang!

That's a crying shame, especially when she has had such great work for the past two weeks. But hey, I didn't vote for her either. Too much great talent to choose from. No elimination election week? Since that had originally planned to do so, I expect another double elimination the following week. Better keep that tissue box handy. Oy!
