As has become tradition here at Trav's Thoughts, I counted down the days to this year's Blog Blast for Peace with 30 days of peace quotes.  This is the third year I've done this.  Some quotes are repeated because the power of those words is timeless.  I've also found quotes I hadn't heard before.

Here is a recap of the quotes I chose.

4 October
Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable.  John F Kennedy

5 October
Peace is not the absence of conflict, but the ability to cope with it.  Unknown

6 October
When I say it's you I like, I'm talking about that part of you that knows that life is far more than anything you can ever see or hear or touch. That deep part of you that allows you to stand for those things without which humankind cannot survive. Love that conquers hate, peace that rises triumphant over war, and justice that proves more powerful than greed.  Fred Rogers

7 October
You find peace not by rearranging the circumstances of your life, but by realizing who you are at the deepest level.  Eckhart Tolle

8 October
If you don't like something change it; if you can't change it, change the way you think about it.  Mary Engelbreit

9 October
Dance like no one is watching, love like you'll never be hurt, sing like no one is listening, and live like it's heaven on earth.  William Purkey

10 October
The real differences around the world today are not between Jews and Arabs; Protestants and Catholics; Muslims, Croats, and Serbs. The real differences are between those who embrace peace and those who would destroy it; between those who look to the future and those who cling to the past; between those who open their arms and those who are determined to clench their fists.  William J. Clinton

11 October
Maybe we should develop a Crayola bomb as our next secret weapon. A happiness weapon. A beauty bomb. And every time a crisis developed, we would launch one. It would explode high in the air - explode softly - and send thousands, millions, of little parachutes into the air. Floating down to earth - boxes of Crayolas. And we wouldn't go cheap, either - not little boxes of eight. Boxes of sixty-four, with the sharpener built right in. With silver and gold and copper, magenta and peach and lime, amber and umber and all the rest. And people would smile and get a little funny look on their faces and cover the world with imagination.  Robert Fulghum

12 October
We are not going to deal with the violence in our communities, our homes, and our nation, until we learn to deal with the basic ethic of how we resolve our disputes and to place an emphasis on peace in the way we relate to one another.  Marian Wright Edelman

13 October
The time is always right to do what is right.  Martin Luther King Jr

14 October
I am only one, but I am one. I cannot do everything, but I can do something. And I will not let what I cannot do interfere with what I can do.  Edward Everett Hale

15 October
Every man must decide whether he will walk in the light of creative altruism or in the darkness of destructive selfishness.  Dr Martin Luther King Jr

16 October
If I have been of service, if I have glimpsed more of the nature and essence of ultimate good, if I am inspired to reach wider horizons of thought and action, if I am at peace with myself, it has been a successful day.  Alex Noble

17 October
The care of human life and happiness, and not their destruction, is the first and only object of good government.  Thomas Jefferson

18 October
The practice of peace and reconciliation is one of the most vital and artistic of human actions.  Thich Nhat Nanh

19 October
To the world you may be just one person, but to one person you may be the world.   Brandi Snyder

20 October
A dog is the only thing on earth that loves you more than he loves himself. Josh Billings

21 October
To be one, to be united is a great thing. But to respect the right to be different is maybe even greater.  Unknown

22 October
We cannot have peace if we are only concerned with peace. War is not an accident. It is the logical outcome of a certain way of life. If we want to attack war, we have to attack that way of life.  AJ Muste

23 October
The pacifist's task today is to find a method of helping and healing which provides a revolutionary constructive substitute for war.  Vera Brittain

24 October
Act as if what you do makes a difference. It does.  William James
25 October
I'm fed up to the ears with old men dreaming up wars for young men to die in. George McGovern

26 October
When we are unable to find tranquility within ourselves, it is useless to seek it elsewhere.  Francois de la Rochefoucauld
27 October
We challenge the culture of violence when we ourselves act in the certainty that violence is no longer acceptable, that it's tired and outdated no matter how many cling to it in the stubborn belief that it still works and that it's still valid. Gerard Vanderhaar

28 October
The most important trip you may take in life is meeting people halfway.  Henry Boye
29 October
If humans would only realize how intricately tied to our experiences violence is, and became conscious of the connections, we might then better control it. Charles Gramlich

30 October
One voice, one subject, one day.   Mimi Lennox
31 October
Symbolism...is inherent in the very texture of human life.  Alfred North Whitehead

1 November
It's not enough that we learn to unmake war. We must learn to remake peace. Mimi Lennox

2 November
Diversity need not be divisive.
I don't know if anyone has been formally credited with saying this, but I say it so I'll call it my quote.
