It's encores and results!

There were some good performances and a few great performances in the first two weeks.  Here's what we liked.

We liked the Contemporary from Dorothy Hamill and Tristan MacManus in the first week.  I got chills just watching it again.

We liked the Contemporary from Zendaya Coleman and Val Chmerkovskiy in the first week.  I love the quality of her movement and I'm really looking forward to watching the evolution of Val's choreography with her.

We liked the Cha Cha Cha from Kellie Pickler and Derek Hough in the first week.  LEGGSSES!!

We hatess to ssay thiss, preciouss, yess we doess.  It painss us...it burnss uss.  We liked the Jazz from Jacoby Jones and Karina Smirnoff in the second week.  Ravensses...bah!

We liked the Jazz from Andy Dick and Sharna Burgess in the second week.  It was delightfully demented and unexpectedly effective.

We liked the Quickstep from Aly Raisman and Mark Ballas in the second week.  She's got the talent to compete with Kellie and Zendaya.  I couldn't find a short clip, so scroll to about 1:03 for the dance.

It's a tie for us for dance of the night because we couldn't choose between two top performances in the second week.

The Jive from Zendaya and Val...cool and smooth.

The Jazz from Kellie and Derek...artistic and innovative.

That's a lot of good stuff right there!

Louis van Amstel is blogging the season.  I enjoy reading his reviews to see how my thoughts measure up.  Click here to see what he had to say about week 2.

Here's a reminder of our leader board:

50 Zendaya and Val
47 Kellie and Derek
45 Aly and Mark
43 Jacoby and Karina
40 Ingo and Kym
39 Sean and Peta
37 Andy and Sharna
36 Dorothy and Tristan
36 Wynonna and Tony
36 Victor and Lindsay
36 Lisa and Gleb
28 DL and Cheryl

OK now, let's have some results.

No wait...first let's have our pros and our Troupe in a group dance.   Outstanding!  That was choreographed by Jason Gilkison.

Now let's have some results.  Ingo and Kym are safe.  Sean and Peta are safe.  Wynonna and Tony are safe.

Fans selected the encore via Twitter votes...they voted for the terrific Jive from Zendaya and Val.

More results...Aly and Mark are safe.  DL and Cheryl are safe.

A group called Icona Pop is in the ballroom.  I know you'll forgive me when I say I've never heard of them.  Oh.  It's electronic noise.  I know you'll forgive me when I tell you I turned the sound off.  Sorry, but I don't like that.

Hey...you know Lindsay Arnold came over from SYTYCD because I told you.  But guess what else?  Witney Carson from SYTYCD Season 9 is in our Dance Troupe.  I enjoyed both of these gals on SYTYCD last summer and it's great to see them cross over to DWTS.

More results...Zendaya and Val are safe.  Kellie and Derek are safe.  Jacoby and Karina are safe.

Josh Groban is in the ballroom.  No need to forgive me on this one because I know who Mr Groban is.  Hehehee.  Bonus...we get a visit from Chelsie Hightower and Dmitri Chaplin, a couple more SYTYCD alums.  The song, the music, the dancing...all lovely.

Final results...Dorothy and Tristan are safe.  Andy and Sharna are safe.

Oh damn.  Dorothy has to withdraw due to injury.  She's got a serious back problem that could result in disability if she continues to dance.  I'm glad I got to enjoy as much from her as she was able to give.  And since she withdrew before an elimination, the other 11 pairs all get to advance.

So add Lisa and Gleb to the safe list.

But color me so sad that Dorothy is out due to injury.  What a class act.

Tune in next week for Prom Night in the ballroom.

Cheers gang.

I do think that there will be a female champion this year. I don't see enough musicality in any of the guys to challenge the top three girls. I LOVE Kellie Pickler. She obviously has a personal trainer that had her in "dance" shape before Derek came on board.
There is no substitute for youth, flexibility, and energy. Now that sixteen year old Zendaya has mastered dancing in high heels, she could be unstoppable. Time will tell.

  1. Sorry to lose Dorothy but it does give one more week for the weaker dancers to shape up their performances.

  1. Sad to read of Dorothy's situation. Glad she took her doctor's advice.

I was so shocked when DL wasn't in the bottom three. Even though I thought his Quickstep showed great improvement, when I looked how far behind he was on the leaderboard, I didn't think that he could overcome that kind of deficit with viewer votes. I am very impressed. Also, impressed that Dorothy withdrew before the "official" elimination. I don't see how you do that the last 2 minutes before the end of the show though. I figure that she told them earlier, but naturally, they couldn't just cancel the show and open with a "never mind." I guess I can overlook that kind of "manufactured drama." Until next week ...
