Mo's Manic Monday - Memorial Day Edition
Posted: Monday, May 28, 2007 by Travis Cody in
Welcome to another Manic Monday with Mo. Don't forget to visit MM HQ at It's A Blog Eat Blog World. Today's theme is Red.
Most of my readers know of my special fondness for the Corps. It was my original career choice to become a Marine. When that goal was taken away, it took a long time to come to terms with it and move on to other pursuits.
I saw this photo at Mimi Writes not too long ago. I posted a comment to the original post, saying that the photo both broke my heart and made me proud. Why proud? Because I'm proud of the young man for looking Lt. Col. Ric Thompson in the eye while he accepts the flag. I'm proud of the young man's father for his service and his sacrifice.
Some might use this photo to make political statements. I simply honor the service and sacrifice of Marcus Golczynski, who gave his life in Iraq. And I honor his brave son, Christian. (DNJ photo by Aaron Thompson)
Memorial Day is for remembering the sacrifice of all our military personnel.
I remember my buddies who joined the Corps and gave their lives. Semper Fi fellas.
Oh, Trav, I saw this photo today during the Indy 500 broadcast, and my heart ached. The pain and courage in this young boy's face made me weep.
You know I share your affinity for the Corps.
Semper Fi.
