Mo's Manic Monday - Memorial Day Edition

Welcome to another Manic Monday with Mo. Don't forget to visit MM HQ at It's A Blog Eat Blog World. Today's theme is Red.

Most of my readers know of my special fondness for the Corps. It was my original career choice to become a Marine. When that goal was taken away, it took a long time to come to terms with it and move on to other pursuits.

I saw this photo at Mimi Writes not too long ago. I posted a comment to the original post, saying that the photo both broke my heart and made me proud. Why proud? Because I'm proud of the young man for looking Lt. Col. Ric Thompson in the eye while he accepts the flag. I'm proud of the young man's father for his service and his sacrifice.

Some might use this photo to make political statements. I simply honor the service and sacrifice of Marcus Golczynski, who gave his life in Iraq. And I honor his brave son, Christian. (DNJ photo by Aaron Thompson)

Memorial Day is for remembering the sacrifice of all our military personnel.

I remember my buddies who joined the Corps and gave their lives. Semper Fi fellas.

  1. Oh, Trav, I saw this photo today during the Indy 500 broadcast, and my heart ached. The pain and courage in this young boy's face made me weep.

You know I share your affinity for the Corps.

    Semper Fi.

Sorry, but I am allergic to all military stuff. I am more for peace and military has nothing to do with that. Fight for peace is still war !

  1. fyi, I am doing a shout out on your post...

  1. What a sad picture. I am sorry to say that I have seen those sad faces too many times.

Hugs from an Army wife to a Marine-lover....lol.

  1. Songbird: I know. I borrowed the photo from Mimi because I knew it would make the statement I wanted for today. Semper Fi.

Gattina: I understand your feelings. But these men and women choose to serve. They aren't responsible for where they are sent to do what they do. And they must be honored and thanked, especially when their service requires them to pay the ultimate price. Thanks for stopping by.

Mousey: Welcome and thank you for your thoughts.

    Shaz: Thanks!

    Turn: Right back atcha darlin!

Sanni: A fitting quote my dear.

Villager: Thanks. Peace to you also.

  1. Matt: It says more than any words I can write.

Lizza: Thanks Lizza. They've been gone awhile, but today it comes back.

Bee: Thank you my dear. That CAKE sounds delicious. Sarge is a helluva guy. Enjoy a bite for me!

Sarge: Awww Sarge. You're right. But I respect Gattina's view as well. It takes us all to make the world work. Thanks for the shout out Sir.

108: Welcome to my place. Your husband has my humble thanks for his service.

  1. Julie says:

Very moving post my dear Travis. The picture grips my heart and won't let go.

    *sigh*

  1. Anndi says:

    Beautiful picture.

No matter how people feel about the war, we must remember that some have stepped forward and chosen to serve their country.

    Lest we forget.

  1. Very moving post! :)

Thanks so much for stopping by.
    Have a great Monday.

  1. Nola: Thanks.

Julie: I think about that young man quite a lot and hope he is surrounded by love.

Ann: Agreed. It is there choice to serve, and this must be respected. They do not choose where they are sent.

CWM: I appreciate you dropping in!

  1. Sandee says:

It doesn't get any better than this Travis. Excellent presentation for Memorial Day. Big hug. :)

  1. This is a very moving and well done tribute, Travis.

I must admit I feel as Gattina does regarding war. War + War does not = Peace, and I am all for Peace. While I can "support the soldiers" I can not support the WAR... if you know what I mean here.

My post is finally up, better late than never, haha.

  1. Comedy: Others have said it well today too. It's special to me and important to remember.

Alice: I do understand. And I respect your position.

  1. An excellent post today Travis...The Corps is lessened by your not having been a part of it.

  1. Neila says:

A very moving tribute! Great post, Travis!

  1. Travis - I made Christian a peace globe this week. It's in the gallery with the picture on a globe. He deserves the respect and honor.

  1. Trav,

What a beautiful piece you have written here.

And of course you know my connection and feeling of the Marine Corp.

I am so honored to be able to call you "friend".
