Welcome to another Manic Monday with Morgen. Today's theme is Deal. Don't forget to cruise by MM HQ at It's A Blog Eat Blog World.

Press me for one, and I'll tell you that my favorite song from Taylor Hicks is The Deal. But only if you press me. The Deal is a favorite of mine by a very small margin. It is one of Taylor's original songs, and that makes it special.

The Deal
by Taylor Hicks

The sun's shining and it's raining
No better way to describe my feel
When you left my heart was complaining
How a couple of days can act like years
I know living with me ain't easy
When I tell you how I feel
A simple phrase,
Hard to put into words

Let it grow
Let it show
Let it flow

I'm here to show you, baby,
This love is real

Wherever you go
My heart's bound to follow
Wherever you go
Then I'll be there

This being gone's
Been a tough pill to swallow
I hope you can feel me in the air
Now I don't mind a whole lot of waiting
If this is truly how you feel
I'm tired of scratching those reservations
If I just might, tonight, then all right

If it's real, then go on baby
And let's make that deal
Mmmmmm

I've given you the best I've got to offer
'cause there ain't no more in here to see
This premonition I have is awful
Thanks to the moonbeams' generosity

Now I don't mind a whole lot of waiting
If this is truly how you feel
I'm tired of scratching those reservations
If I just might, tonight, then all right

If it's real, then go on baby
If I just might, tonight, then all right
If it's real, then go on baby
Let's make that deal, mmmmmmmm
Let's make that deal

Although, you could press me further and I might tell you that my favorite is any other song, like one of his other original tunes called Soul Thing or Hell of a Day. I could also say that my favorite is Just to Feel That Way or Places I've Been, both from Taylor's major label debut.

The truth is that I don't really like to choose a favorite. So many of Taylor's songs have a meaning for me, whether it's just that I enjoy the melody or whether it speaks to something in my life.

The Right Place is one of those songs that speaks to something in my life. This is from an appearance on The View, 18 July 2007.

Later babies!

I don't know the singers or the songs ! But I prefer the second one !

    Ahhhhh--great minds sugar!
    WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

    Smooch

  1. Ian says:

This obsession you all have with Taylor Hicks seems kind of...unhealthy.

    Ian

  1. Gattina: When I first heard the second song, I knew it was special.

Turn: Yup! What else would a Soul Patrol brother post for this topic?

Ian: Nope...joyful. His music makes me smile.

  1. tiggerprr says:

Hey Travis, I'm glad his music makes you smile. All music should, but all too often it doesn't does it?

I've tagged you for a brand new meme. The $50,000 question. I'm sure I've tagged you recently...and I'm sorry to do it again so soon, but you're so thoughtful, I just have to see what you'd say.

  1. Schmoop says:

Travis: I like you, so I will refrain from commenting. Enjoy your music and Cheers!!

  1. Shelby says:

LOVE Taylor Hicks... my very own hometown boy..

    :) happy day!

  1. Everyone should have an artist that makes them smile. And if others don't dig it like you do, they just have to DEAL.

    cheers!

  1. Sandee says:

Yeah, what Mo said. Have a great MM Travis. :)

  1. Excellent post oh Mysterious Hottie... EXCELLENT!

    SMOOCHES~

  1. Tiggerprr: Sometimes music is just in the background...which works for me when I just need a little something to keep me company. But sometimes music stops me in my tracks...and Taylor's is music that does that for me. I'll be by to check out the tag.

Matt: I appreciate that. We all like what we like. Cheers!

    Shelby: Wooooooooooooo!!!

Mo: Agreed! I'm sometimes taken aback that some people are actually offended by my enjoyment of Taylor. What's it to 'em anyway?

    Comedy: Thanks! You too!

    Dix: Smooches right back atcha!

  1. Angell says:

I haven't done a MM yet, but as soon as I saw the word over at TB's blog, I knew one of us was bound to post that.

    LOVE YOU TRAV. :D

  1. oh btw, i would not have shown the hand, why let the guy know he did good....

  1. i somehow thought turn would like that! ha ha...

    smiles, bee

Great job! :) It's great that he makes you smile...I guess the answer to the song "Do I make you proud?" is yes, then correct?!

  1. a loyal member of the patrol....

  1. Julie says:

Press you? Ummm could you tell me exactly how you would like that?

    **sashays off giggling**

  1. Angell: It was the thing to post for today.

Sarge: That's the same thing I thought Sarge. Even a novice player like me understands that a single hand is only a part of the whole game. Why give up a part of your edge on a future bluff?

Bee: Yup! We're Soul Patrol family.

    CWM: He most certainly does.

    Katherine: Smooches!

Julie: Well...see...I have a button on my...nevermind. Silly!!

  1. I never watch American Idol, but the more I hear of Taylor Hicks, the better I like him. He is a seasoned performer with a great style and voice.

  1. Linda says:

Taylor was always my favorite to win American Idol that season and I was so glad that he did. It was so nice to see someone who wasn't a "cookie cutter" artist win for a change and I love his music so I thought this was an excellent post!

  1. Lisa Ryan says:

Nice.... thanks for the tunes Travis. Happy Monday!

  1. Unknown says:

Now there's a deal I'd love to make!

  1. Jamie: That's really all any musician can hope for...to be given an opportunity to display his music and have it evaluated on its own merits. And even if you didn't care for it, that would be ok as well because at least you listened with an open mind.

Linda: It goes without saying that I agree with you.

    Lisa: Glad you enjoyed.

  1. Neila says:

Okay, you're making me want to download a Taylor Hicks album. That's a good song!

  1. Dana: I thought you might like that.

    Neila: Do it!!

I left my link here earlier in the day, then kept falling asleep at the keyboard so went to bed... then when I got up an old friend I haven't seen in a couple years dropped by and we ended up going out to see other friends... but am finally back to post my comment, HAHA. What a DEAL!

Hope you had a wonderful Manic Monday. Thanks for visiting.

a friend took me to his show in Nashville and I was really surprised...not what I expected at all. I heard his cd and it is just ok - he is definitely at his best live. He should make a cd from one of his shows. Now I would buy that.

" he is definitely at his best live."

Yes he is !! Have been to multiple shows that were all very good to seriously great and no two were the same. Have even done back to back shows a couple of times and the mood and the set list were different, not necessarily one better than the other, just changed up enough for it to feel like a new show. Taylor has such a vast knowledge of music that he can change the main set list at will during the show based on the type of crowd he has that night, and we know he has, and he also plays around with the main songs by tagging in bits of other songs to keep things fresh.
He is getting past his natural reserve and shyness around strangers too and is talking and bantering more with the audience on the summer tour which is nice.

" He should make a cd from one of his shows. Now I would buy that."

Keep your eyes open this fall for the DVD Taylor is releasing of his show recorded at the Warfield Theatre in San Francisco May 9th the last leg of his spring tour. No confirmed word right now whether there will also be a CD.

There is a live CD from the shadow tour Taylor's pre-Idol band, Little Memphis Blues Orchestra, was doing with the AI-5 tour last year. The CD is from the Workplay venue show the night before the AI concert in Birmingham and Taylor is on Disc 2
The CD is on Amazon listed as "Live at the Workplay Theatre"
and definitely worth the price !! LiMBO is a very good bar jam band in their own right too.

And Ian ? not at all unhealthy - lol. Taylor Hicks has made good music "healthy" again for a lot of people including my husband and my son who have been to most of the shows with me. For the majority of fans I've met, even though there may be some silly fun chatter, it really is bottom line "all about the music" for us just as it is for Taylor.

There is lots of really good Taylor video on You Tube. If you have only heard the CD, you should really take a look at some of the videos, its amazing how he has changed those songs live. Check out TheMaze from the recent Toms River New Jersey show...its unbelievable!
