Neglected business
Posted: Saturday, September 08, 2007 by Travis Cody inDuring my little hiatus, I received a couple of awards that I should acknowledge.
Mo from It's A Blog Eat Blog World and my Sugarbaby Hoochie from Dixie's Heart and Soul said that my blog made them smile. And I got this bright badge.
Sandee from Comedy+ and Bond from The Couch said that I was a Blog Star. And I got this cool badge.
Bond also wrote me into the Viral Story that has been making the rounds.
It's a full football weekend for us. We're hoping for a better showing from Notre Dame against Penn St today. GO IRISH!!
UW started the season strongly with a thrashing of Syracuse back east...sorry Lisa! But it's a tough home opener today against #24 Boise St, last season's upset winner over Oklahoma in the Fiesta Bowl. This would be a huge win if the Huskies can pull it off.
The Colts looked very sharp Thursday against New Orleans. There may be teams that are as good as Indy, but I'd be surprised if I saw a better team at this early stage. The second half of that game was extremely impressive against a Saints team that some pundits predict could be a Super Bowl contender. If so, they have some work to do because the Colts dominated them in every aspect.
My Raiders are at home against Detroit tomorrow. Both teams are coming off horrible seasons. The Lions have offensive weapons, but have been unable to put anything together and have been among the worst franchises in the NFL for years. The Raiders were the worst team in the league last season, but I have hope that new head coach Lane Kiffin will make Oakland competitive.
Now the SF 49ers have a pretty bright outlook for 2007. They are still a young team, but I've been impressed with the off season work. This is the third year for QB Alex Smith, and I'm expecting continued improvement. The 49ers are front and center on Monday Night Football, hosting the improved Arizona Cardinals led by QB Matt Leinert. Pam won't like me saying it, but I think these two young teams may be poised to turn the NFC West upside down and force Seattle and St Louis to re-tool.
Of course I must mention the Seahawks. The defending NFC West champions are led by All Pro RB Shaun Alexander, who is healthy to start the season. He just turned 30, but if he can stay healthy he is still among the NFL's top rushers. The defense is strong, and Seattle fans are poised to defend as 3-time NFC West champs and return to the playoffs. They host Tampa Bay in the opener tomorrow.
Geeez. When I return to posting I really return to posting! Let me wrap this up now with my picks for NFL week 1. You'll have to trust me that I picked Indy to win on Thursday before the game.
